Furry Friends Foundation helps families over holidays Furry Friends Foundation put its paws to the pavement this past year and moved to a new location. With the sale of The Nugget, former publisher and founder of Furry Friends Foundation, Kiki Dolson, moved the nonprofit to the Sisters Art Works building in January of 2018. “We’re happy to report a very successful year of helping families. However, because the need has been great, pet food and pet supply expenses have more than doubled combined with the added cost of rent this year, we’re in huge need of cash donations,” Dolson reported. Cash donations allow Furry Friends to target its purchases of food to meet individual pets’ needs. Donations also support Furry Friends Foundation (FFF) in supplying spay/neuter and vaccination services, pet food and supplies to families and seniors in Sisters. Sometimes a pet owner only needs a few weeks of food to assure their pets can stay with the family. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, FFF is there to help in the Sisters area. “We’re also gearing up for the big holiday pet food distribution and Pet Photos With Santa fundraiser,” said Dolson. Pet Photos With Santa is slated for Saturday, December 1, at the annual Sisters Art Works open house. Kathy Deggendorfer will be sell- ing her art-inspired merchandise, Black Butte School will be there selling their wreaths and the dessert plate fundraiser for Sisters Food Bank will be there, too. The open house is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Pet Photos With Santa will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Furry Friends partners with the Sisters Kiwanis and the Sisters-Camp Sherman RFPD for their annual Spirit of Giving drive. The fire department provides toys and gifts for children, Kiwanis provides gift cards for people food and Furry Friends distributes pet food, treats and supplies, all on one big distribution day just before Christmas. In 2017, Furry Friends pro- vided pet food and treats to 131 families with a collective 346 pets. A video of last’s year dis- tribution can be seen online at www.youtube. com/watch?v=yTu9l-iHnEU “We are thankful to be receiving another large pet food donation from American Nutrition for the drive,” said Dolson. “So cash donations are very appreciated and PHOTO PROVIDED Furry Friends Foundation will soon host its annual Pet Photos With Santa fundraiser. tax-deductible. But if you love to shop, wet dog and cat food, dog or cat beds, toys and treats are always welcome. There is also a giving tree set up at Sisters Feed this year.” Donations can be mailed to PO Box 1175, Sisters, OR 97759 or made online at www. furryfriendsfoundation.org or dropped off at our office. Furry Friends is located at 204 W. Adams Ave., Ste. 109 (Sisters Art Works build- ing, next door to the Habitat ReStore parking lot).
