David Price was the keynote speaker at Veterans Day observances in Sisters. Sisters salutes... Michaela Miller, a 2016 graduate and co-valedicto- rian of Sisters High School, was named to the wom- en’s soccer Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 sec- ond team by the Corporation of Sports Information Directors of America. Miller becomes the first California Baptist University (CBU) student to ever earn CoSIDA All-Academic honors in NCAA Division I. The junior health science major played in 16 games for the Lancers this season. The midfielder tallied an assist against Utah Valley on October 14. The CBU Lancers wom- en’s soccer team ended the season with a 12-5-1 record and took fourth in the Western Athletic Conference standings with a 4-4 league mark, their first season in Division 1. Jason Rybka, 541-588-6245 www.farmersagent.com/jrybka Auto • Home • Life • Business The alpine ski team returns several skiers to the boys side of the squad, and with the new additions on the girls side they will be able to field a full team for the first time. Kincaid Smeltzer, Evan Palmer, and George Chladek all return as veteran skiers on the boys team. Smeltzer (senior) joined the squad last year with a strong skiing background, and will enter his second sea- son of racing. Coach Gabe Chladek told The Nugget that he feels Kincaid will be one of the Outlaws’ fastest racers, and predicts he will excel on the giant slalom course. Palmer (junior) is a pas- sionate racer and last year had the team’s second-high- est season score. Chladek stated that Evan is one of the team’s strongest giant slalom skiers, and is looking for him to get faster on that course and up his game in slalom. George Chladek (junior) had the teams’ highest score last season and emerged as a great slalom technician. He will work to refine his giant slalom skills this year. Sophomores Conner Petke and Christopher Lundgren were JV racers last year, and are expected to score points for the varsity squad this PHOTO PROVIDED Dr. Thomas R. Mitchell Griffin (junior) and Simon Rhett (sopho- more) were on the team last year, but didn’t get in many races due to illness and travel. They are both back this year, and Chladek noted he will be looking for them to record some varsity times, as well as lead in the JV. Several new skiers will join the boys team including juniors Colton Seymour and August McKeown, and fresh- men Austin Ekern. Oscar Rhett, and Ethan Hicks. Seymour joins the team with a lot of skiing experi- ence and a history of racing at the club level. He is expected to fill one of the top varsity racing spots. McKeown, Ekern, Rhett, and Hicks all have skiing experience, but are new to the race course and will gain experience on the JV team. Sophomore Skylar Wilkins is the lone skier that returns on the girls side. Skylar just started to score points last season and had a couple of top-30 finishes. Chladek expects her to be in the top 30 this season on a consistent basis. Four new girls will join the girls squad, and for the first time the Outlaws will fill out a varsity team. The alpine ski team is hosting this year’s Warren Miller ski film, “The Face of Winter,” as a fundraiser. It will be shown on Saturday evening, December 1, at Sisters High School, and tickets will be available at the door. Adults will be $12, youth $10, and 6 and under are free. They will be raffling some great prizes, including a season pass at Hoodoo. All four come with prior skiing expe- rience that Chladek stated will provide a great founda- tion for the race course. The team’s biggest goals for the season are fun, team spirit, and safety. Chladek told The Nugget that with focus and hard work the Outlaws may manage to move up in the finish order this season.
