Wednesday, July 25, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon SAA Fourth Friday Art Stroll add Artist Studio Tour By Helen Schmidling Correspondent This Friday, Sisters Gallery & Frame Shop, along with Paulina Springs Books, will be celebrating the Official Book Release of Dennis McGregor’s second book, “You Stole My Name.” The original paintings, giclée prints, and note cards will be at the gallery, and Dennis will read, sing, and sign at the bookstore. Come and see what the entire buzz is about, during Fourth Friday Art Stroll from 4 to 7 p.m. Celebrate wine, women and horses at Jill Neal Gallery, showing new unicorn and Three Sisters mugs and con- temporary horse paintings. Jill has announced that Canadian Art and Music is replicating her products across Canada. Garth Williams’ palette- knife strokes, thick layers, and vibrant colors capture the spirit of the wild Northwest, in paintings of mountain landscapes, winding streams, lakeside moments, and back- yard scenes at the Clearwater Gallery. At Twigs, the July artist is Katie Dumolt, in an exhibit called “Reef.” She states: New art district banners help visitors navigate to galleries. “May 2017 marked these end of the longest and most severe global coral reef bleaching (of three ever documented). Learning about this bleaching drove me to create a series of quilts inspired by the biodiver- sity of coral reefs. All of the quilts have recycled or reused materials to reduce waste from reaching the reefs we wish to protect. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Coral Reef Alliance to help restore these beautiful habitats.” Raven Make Gallery is fea- turing Mark Shelton, Seneca, Honorary Chinook mixed media artist (collage, paper, acrylic) all weekend. Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m., Mark will discuss his creative process and connection to Native American subjects. See how he creates intense color fields and textures by layering bits of exotic papers in collages, further enhanced with boldly applied acrylic. He captures moments of traditional iden- tity, offering a prayer, weaving a blanket, or reflecting upon sacred waters. Hood Avenue Art’s fea- tured artists are Patricia Freeman-Martin and Jeff and Heather Thompson. Patricia’s mixed media fiber art, paint- ings, and drawings harmo- nize with the vibrant colors of the Thompsons’ hand-blown glass vessels, animals, and wall pieces. This exhibit runs through August 20. At Cowgirls and Indians, Kate Aspen will feature origi- nal resale artworks by Marie Barbera, Rod Frederick, Ed Morgan, Bruce Watchman, William F. Reese, Native American Squash Blossoms, and Navajo rugs. At the Collection Gallery, this month’s featured artist is photographer Lisa Belt. Dyrk Godby’s gallery will be open for fans of western art. Sisters Library galleries feature the eye-popping acrylic pours of Candice Bruguier, whose work is also shown at Sisters Gallery & Frame Shop, and Nature’s Bling. Jewelry artist Wolfgang Vaatz will bring his trunk show to The Jewel. Inspired by natural scenery, he travels in search of ideas and materi- als and turns them into minia- ture wearable art. Other galleries opening their doors include Studio Redfield and Kibak Tile, Wild- flower Studio, Grizzly Ridge Upcycle, and Beacham’s Clock Company. New gal- lery maps are available in all locations. Watch for the new ART banners that the Sisters Arts Association has placed on galleries. The banners are designed as a wayfinding sys- tem to match the image on the front of the map. While you’re out this week, pick up a map that will guide you on the Artist Studio Tour, taking place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eighteen artists will be demonstrating and talking about their work in 16 locations in and around Sisters. This is the second annual event sponsored by the SAA. It’s free, but donations are always welcome.
