Henderson January 29, 1941 — May 18, 2018 Michael “Mike” Doran Henderson of Sisters, 77, passed away on May 18, at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend after sustaining multiple injuries in a colli- sion three weeks earlier in Redmond. Mike was born on January 29, 1941, in Oakland, California, to John Henry Hill and Velma Louise Drewry Hill Henderson Day. When he was young, his family spent a lot of time at the Drewry Ranch in Mendocino County, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and helping with the livestock. Over the years, He returned to the ranch many times to visit the Drewry cousins. His family moved to Oregon when he was a teenager, and that is where he would end up spend- ing the majority of his life. Mike graduated from Corvallis High School in 1959, where he was active in sports, student government and DeMolay International. He went on to college and completed his undergradu- ate studies at University of Oregon. He would later serve as president of the University of Oregon Alumni Association. He contin- ued his studies at Lewis & Clark College School of Law and obtained his JD (Juris Doctor) degree. Mike began his legal career with at the DA’s office in Grant’s Pass, Oregon. Later he realized that he was better suited for private practice, made the change, and never looked back. At that time, he was married to Sylvia Henderson, and they were raising their two sons and his stepdaughter. In the late eighties, he moved to Central Oregon with his fam- ily and continued his career as a self-employed criminal defense attorney. He also built Vermont Station, a downtown Bend office build- ing, where he had his own business office and rented out the others. He was a practic- ing lawyer up until the tragic motor vehicle accident that ultimately ended his life. Prior to the accident, Mike was a very active 77-year-old, still working, but also enjoying his free time with a number of inter- ests and hobbies. He was an avid Oregon Ducks fan and member of two American Poolplayers Association (APA) local teams, Chalk of the Town and Give Me A Break. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing, and horseback riding, as well as yoga, Pilates and Conscious Transformation with his sig- nificant other, Annie. Mike was also a member of the Folk Arts Circle with Sisters Folk Festival. Living in the serene Sisters countryside, he was taking care of a number of animals and living life to its fullest. Mike will be fondly remembered by friends and family for his calm and soft-spoken presence, sense of humor, intelligence, patience, kindness, thought- fulness and loving spirit. He will be missed by many! The deceased is survived Eula Curtis Novgmbgr 29, 1919 — April 19, 2018 by his significant other, Annie Andreson of Sisters; sons: Martin Henderson (Julia) of Eugene and Michael Henderson (Wendy) of Bend; step-daughter: Jackie Rudd (Lewis) of Seattle, WA; sis- ters: Lynn Henderson of Fountain Valley, California, and Cindy Saling (Bob) of Surprise, Arizona, as well as four grandchildren and one step-grandchild. She volunteered at the Sisters Fire Hall for Christmas din- ners and volunteered at Sisters Habitat. Eula was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Russ; daughter Patty Swarens; and her five sib- lings. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Curtis and Susan Aylor. Eula was always known for her sense of humor and wit. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. There will be a celebration of life June 23, at 3 p.m. at Sisters Rodeo Clubhouse. She graduated high school as class valedic- torian. She met her future husband Lester Russell Curtis on a blind date and they were married in 1943. Russ was hired as a cartog- rapher for the USGS. The couple and their three young daughters lived in seven western states and moved 61 times in the 30-plus years he worked for the government. In 1947 Russ was sent to Prineville. They loved it there and decided they would retire in Central Oregon. They purchased land in Sisters and moved there in 1973. Eula worked for the City of Sisters from 1980 until 1985. In 1992 she became a SMART vol- unteer for the grade school for several years and loved it. Eula also volunteered at the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce for several years.
