Wednesday, May 23, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 13 Local Event will showcase Photography club women-owned businesses veterans host shows work in library Sixteen women-owned businesses in Sisters will gather on Saturday, May 26 to showcase their products and services to the Sisters com- munity. The event is open to the public. “This will be a great oppor- tunity for our community to come together to shop, and meet some new people,” said event organizer Corrie Lake, of Legacy Realty in Sisters. The event will be held at the Legacy Realty office, at 282 S. Cedar St. (in the new buildings behind Hop n Brew) from 3 to 6 p.m. There will be shopping opportunities and raffle drawings for prizes and gift certificates. Lake explained the genesis of the event. “Here at Legacy Realty Debbie Brown and I feel that it’s really important to con- nect with our community,” she said. “We both realized that our office space could be utilized for small events so I approach my good friend Stacy Ransom who runs a very successful Mary Kay business here in Sisters to see if she wanted to use our space for a Mary Kay event and the light bulb went on!” Ransom connected Lake with Angela Bobst who sells DoTERRA essential oils and also created a Facebook FREE Friday GIVEAWAYS start at 6pm, May 18-June 1 RODEO TICKETS!! Memorial Day observances S i s t e r s Ve t e r a n s o f Foreign Wars Post 8138 and American Legion Post 86 will host the annual Sisters Memorial Day observances at Village Green Park at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 28. The annual tradition salutes the sacrifice of those who have fallen in America’s wars and conflicts. U.S. Army veteran Pat Bowe will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Chelsea Anttila will sing the National Anthem and a color guard from Redmond High School Marine Jr. ROTC will post the colors. This year ’s keynote speaker is Army veteran Sergeant Brett Miller of Sisters. Severely wounded by an IED in Iraq in 2004, he has gone on to serve other wounded veterans through the nonprofit Warfighter Outfitters, based in Sisters. In 2017, Brett was awarded the Courage Award, the highest honor from Wounded Warrior Project. The show comprises images of places near and far, exotic and familiar, that capture a moment, a feeling, a memory. Sunrise casts light on South Sister, and creates a silhouette from dust stirred up by a horse and rider in California.
