8 Wednesday, March 28, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Outlaws go 1-1 on the diamond Boys tennis team loses matches By Rongi Yost Correspondent The Outlaws suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss at home to Madras on Tuesday, March 20. Two days later, they smothered Crook County and walked away with a 10-0 win. Sisters started their week with a tough loss to Madras on Tuesday. The White Buffs jumped out quick with a two- RBI home run in the first inning of play. In the third, Madras posted another two- run homer to extend their lead to 3-1. Austin Lake had a big at- bat in the fourth, with a two- RBI homer that closed the gap to 3-4. In the bottom of the fifth, Taylor Fendall’s ground out scored a run to tie the game at 4-4. Madras scored the go- ahead run in the sixth and held on for the win. Dillon Tucker started on the mound for Sisters. Dillon pitched the first three innings and allowed four runs on five hits. Turner Stutzman came in and finished the pitching duties, and recorded three strikeouts. Stutzman said, “So far, I’m very pleased and excited with the way I’ve been pitching. My low and outside curveball has been working really well, and when my slider works, it’s a good addition. Our pitching group right now has some freshmen, such as Tucker and Spor, and they really have stepped up and have been doing an outstanding job.” Austin Lake went two-for- three for the Outlaws with a homerun, a double, and three RBI. Garrett Vohs and Austin Morss each had a single. Sisters scored their four runs on five hits, while Madras scored five runs on seven hits. On Thursday, Austin Morss did a fabulous job on the mound and threw a com- plete game for the Outlaws to earn the win. Morss allowed three hits, no runs, no walks, and recorded two strikeouts. Rainey said, “Austin pitched one of the best games I have seen at the high school level in a long time. He was able to locate all of his pitches, and attacked the strike zone at will. It was like watching Greg Maddux in his prime.” Sisters started with a good first inning. Stutzman singled on the first pitch of the at-bat and scored two. At the close of the first, the Outlaws held a 4-0 advantage. The Outlaws tacked on six runs in the sixth, which cut the game short due to the 10-run rule.
