Driver extricated from three-car wreck Cloverdale and Sisters firefighters were involved in their weekly training exer- cises on Monday, December 18, at 7 p.m., when they were called out to respond to a three-car wreck on Highway 20 at Plainview Road. According to Cloverdale Fire District reports, the wreck involved a Subaru Outback, a Toyota Camry and a Chevy pickup truck, and two of those vehicles had collided head-on at highway speeds. The single occupant of the pickup truck was extri- cated from the vehicle by Cloverdale Fire personnel. The driver of the Subaru and the pickup were trans- ported to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend by Sisters Camp-Sherman Fire District ambulances. The three occu- pants of the Toyota Camry were checked out by Bend Fire Ambulance personnel and determined to be uninjured. Cloverdale Fire Chief Thad Olsen said, “A rapid response by both Cloverdale and Sisters fire districts made a positive impact on the out- come. Units were on scene within five minutes and fire personnel worked the scene for an hour.” Chief Olsen reminded drivers to turn on their head- lights during inclement weather, and noted that “win- ter weather conditions require drivers to be diligent of the conditions and other drivers.” The crash is under inves- tigation by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police. The Outlaws were defeated 70-48 in their road game against South Albany (SA) on Thursday, December 21. Sisters has had a very tough pre-season, facing sev- eral 5A schools in hopes the high caliber of competition will prepare them for league play. South Albany’s offense was in high gear from the get-go, while the Outlaws started off slow. The Rebels hit seven shots from behind the arc in the first half, and had a total of 11 for the game. Two of their players scored 41 of their total points. The Outlaws trailed the Rebels 48-25 at the half, but battled back and played a much better second-half, out- scoring SA 23-22. Coach David Godfrey said, “It was good to see that we kept battling, and that we played much better defense the second half. We’d like to think that we are getting bet- ter by playing the 5A teams we have on our schedule.” Ty Horner led the Outlaws with 20 points, Isaiah Rush and Zach Anderson each contributed nine points, and Taylor Scholl had four. The Outlaws were happy to have Scholl back on the court for his first game this season. Taylor has been unable to play due to a knee injury. Sisters missed two of their starters; Jack Berg, who was out with a sprained ankle, and Noah Richards who was out due to a concussion. It was good to see that we kept battling, and that we played much better defense the second half. — Coach David Godfrey Sisters will resume play in their annual Sisters Holiday Tournament, which will be held Thursday through Saturday, December 28 through 30. Woman sentenced for fatal wreck PENDLETON (AP) — An Oregon woman was sentenced to nearly 2 years in prison for the wreck that killed three motorcycle riders in May. The East Oregonian reports 50-year-old Lisa Niehaus pleaded guilty last month to multiple assault charges and three counts of criminally negligent homicide. Authorities say Niehaus was driving on state Highway 19 near Fossil in Central Oregon when she crossed into the oncoming lane traffic, striking a group of motorcycle riders. Authorities say the colli- sion killed two riders and a third died a week later. Six more people were injured. About 45 members of the Gypsy Jokers Motorcycle Club were on the road head- ing to a local rally. Neihaus says she was blinded by the motorcycle headlights. Prosecutors say there were other distractions. F LL TODAY E IN OR CA OR YOUR E C N A R U S FREE I N ISON! COMPAR COM 541-588-6245 Great hair 257 S.
