Is it worth the time and fighting possible heavy traffic to get somewhere close to the centerline of the total phase of the eclipse? The duration of totality in Madras, the Painted Hills, Mitchell, Unity and other locations close to this centerline will be two minutes or longer. The maximum duration occurs in Kentucky and will be about 2:40. If you stay in Sisters you will have only 30 seconds of totality. At the northern- most locations that you can reach from Wilt Road or Green Ridge Road, you will have a duration of almost two minutes. From Wilt Road this will involve some rough sections of road, but a closer loca- tion called “Squaw Flat” before the road gets really rough may be a good place to observe and will have a total- ity duration of about 1:30. See ECLIPSE on page 30 Some folks will fly in, others will drive their clas- sic cars and hot rods. And some will run. The Fourth of July Fly-in at the Sisters Airport is a fundraiser for flight scholarships. This year’s theme is “Sound of Speed.” The fundraising Sound of Speed 5K Run/Walk will take place at the Sisters Airport on Tuesday, July 4, with par- ticipants hitting the runway at 8 a.m. Cost is $30; pro- ceeds from the run go to the Sisters High School Swim Team. The annual fly-in fea- tures a pancake breakfast for $5, and a full day of events. Summer in Sisters...
