14 Wednesday, June 7, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Animation art gallery open in Sisters By Jodi Schneider McNamee Correspondent Walt Disney once said, “I don’t pretend to know any- thing about art. I make pic- tures for entertainment, and then the professors tell me what they mean.” For a man who claimed to know nothing about art, he certainly had a knack for inspiring some of the best art- ists the world has ever seen. Nick Ghosoph, an autho- rized Disney Fine Art Gallery dealer, recently opened the doors to his new gal- lery, Disney Fine Art by Animation Art Masters, in Sisters Town Square. He is proud to carry the torch for this legacy of artistic inspiration. “We carry Disney signa- ture artwork. They are all licensed artists that work for the Disney animation stu- dios,” Ghosoph said. “They are either former or current artists under Disney employ. We also represent ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Looney Toons,’ and other animation art.” From Thomas Kinkade to Tim Rogerson to Heather Theurer to James Coleman, artists throughout the decades have been bringing Disney’s stories and characters back to life in their paintings. “Each Disney canvas print is signed, numbered and a limited edition,” said Ghosoph. Disney artwork has the unique ability to establish an emotional connection with multiple generations of art collectors, from children of the 1930s who experienced The Mickey Mouse Club in their local movie theaters, to a generation of baby-boomer “Mouseketeers” who have passed their love for Disney on to their children and grandchildren of today. Ghosoph and his wife, Vetta, originally owned a gift gallery in Silverton, Oregon, but when they contracted to sell fine art by Disney artist Thomas Kinkade, it became a strong part of their business. “Ironically, I had never been drawn to art my whole life,” Ghosoph said. “But in 1995 when we came across art work by Thomas Kinkade at a gift show, I told Vetta that I would love to sell Kinkade’s art. “So, the next year we signed up to sell his art. You must get approved and licensed to sell the Thomas Kinkade brand. It was a big risk, and a big commitment. But we got approved.” They sold the gift gallery in 1997 and moved to the Fresno, California, area to be closer to family and opened a Thomas Kinkade Signature Art Gallery. In 2002, the Ghosophs expanded their art line to include more major art pub- lishers and changed the gallery name to “Masters Gallery.” By 2004 the gallery included several publishers featuring art work from hun- dreds of Disney signature artists. They re-located their gal- lery to Clovis, California, in 2009 and became even more diversified with the art work they carried. Five years ago, Masters Gallery became an official Disney Fine Art Gallery. Masters Fine Art Gallery now prepares to close its doors at the end of the June at its location in Old Town Clovis. “It was a tough deci- sion to close the longtime 2,000 square foot gallery,” Ghosoph said. “I’m supposed to be retiring.” The smaller, more man- ageable gallery in Sisters is just the right fit for Ghosoph. “But we’ve expanded our representation online to ship product all over the world,” Ghosoph added. “Vetta is managing the store in Clovis until it closes. And I am residing in Sisters.” The couple frequently vacationed in Sisters. When they lived in Silverton they’d come out to camp and hike the mountains. They skied at Mt. Bachelor and rafted the rivers and fished. “We love this area,” Ghosoph told The Nugget.
