Wednesday, June 7, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Sisters spurs into a musical weekend The party starts when the rodeo performances wrap up, and Sisters is ready. Several venues in town are serv- ing up music to go with the broncs and bulls through the weekend. The musical action gets underway early, with local country dance band Dry Canyon Stampede playing at Sisters Saloon on Wednesday, June 7, while Thunder Road takes the stage over at Hardtails Bar & Grill. Hardtails has made major renovations to its outdoor corral venue space, with a new stage, a tent covering and a fence. They are dedi- cating the space to two local musicians. “Pete Grant was a bass player and regular at our open mic/jam nights and also worked at The Gallery Restaurant for many years and lived in Sisters,” Hardtails owner Steve Macey told The Nugget. “Dalton James was tragically killed in an accident in North Dakota three months ago. (He) played on locals’ night with Matt Borden and others — songwriter and guitar playing singing cowboy. A very loved guy in Sisters and a local all the way back to junior high and high school here. “We are having a memo- rial plaque made and dedi- cating the new stage in their names on June 8, locals’ night, at 8 p.m. sharp. All that knew either of them are invited to attend.” Hardtails will feature Vegas regular and Nashville recording artist Rowdy McCarran and his band for several high-energy perfor- mances through the week- end, supported by Sisters’ own Nashville recording art- ist Rhonda Funk. The Crown Royale Girls will also be on hand. The Joe Slick Band will hold the stage on the courtyard at Sisters Saloon through rodeo weekend with their exciting brand of coun- try and rock. Multi-instrumentalist Erik Himbert will play 5 to 7 p.m. at the Food Cart Garden at Eurosports on Friday, June 9, with his extensive repertoire of folk, rock and originals. Matt Gwinup is known to many for his work with Five Pint Mary. His latest project, Matt Gwinup Trio, debuts in Sisters at the Food Cart Garden on Saturday, June 10. Jim Cornelius will play during Sisters Art in the Park on June 10-11, at Creekside Park, serving up a mix of originals and songs by art- ists ranging from Waylon Jennings and Steve Earle to Guy Clark and Tom Russell. Deschutes River bill sent to full Senate SALEM (AP) — An amendment to a bill to con- struct a bridge over the Deschutes River has been approved. The Bulletin reports the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee approved a bill 3-2 Thursday to build a pedestrian and bicycle bridge only in a loca- tion that begins at Bend’s urban growth bound- ary and extends approxi- mately 520 feet (158.5 meters). Without that approval, the bill would have died under the Legislature’s Friday deadline for bills in commit- tee to either move to the floor of the House and Senate or expire. The bill now goes to the full Senate. If approved, it would return to the House for a vote to approve the new amendment. If the bill is approved, it would then go to Gov. Kate Brown for approval or veto.
