Boys tennis notches No. 1 doubles win By Rongi Yosd Correspondent Sisters’ No. 1 doubles team was the lone vic- tory in the Outlaws 6-1 loss to Philomath at home on Thursday, April 27. Jed Kizziar and Jacob Gurney defeated Luke Haslam and Alec Stuki 6-2, 7-5. The duo have proved they’re a force to be reck- oned with, and have won all but two of their dual meet competitions. The combo came about in an unexpected manner. When the season began, Coach Bim Gander had planned for Jed to play singles because of his foot speed and court cover- age. Gander planned to play him at No. 3 singles, behind his older brother, Josh, with the thought that he would move up a slot next year, and CITY MANAGER: Decision expected by end of May Continued from page 5 Twenty-five of the appli- cants were from outside Oregon. Telephone inter- views were conducted with 18 of the 42 applicants and the field was narrowed to eight semi-finalists, five from Oregon and three from out of state. From the eight semi- finalists, the four finalists were selected. Jensen Strategies, the Portland firm that has con- ducted the recruiting process, is doing background and ref- erence checks on the four finalists. The local interview pro- cess will take place over two days, May 22-23. On Monday afternoon, May 22, City staff will be meet- ing with all four candidates be one of the team leaders. That all changed when senior Sean Willitts was unable to team up with Gurney, due to an early season injury. Gander had to quickly improvise, and teamed Jed with Jacob in the first doubles slot at the Outlaws match against Redmond. Since then they’ve been a winning combination. “Their doubles chemistry is nothing less than astound- ing!” said Gander. “To my pleasant surprise, they’re almost certain to receive a seeded position in next week’s district 2 tournament, which starts on Thursday, May 4, at Stayton.” The Outlaws were to play at Estacada on Tuesday, May 2. They will play at district two days later at Stayton. So. Boneless Skinless Fryer Breasts Whole in Bag Beef Tri-Tips 2.77 $ /lb. Whole Boneless Pork Loin 1 /lb.
