4 Wednesday, December 28, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon New Sisters-Redmond bus route set By Sue Stafford Correspondent Beginning February 1, 2017, Cascades East Transit (CET) will institute a new bus route between Sisters and Bend. The schedule has been developed to accommo- date students and people employed in Bend. The bus will stop on the east end of Main Avenue near the library, and on the west end of Main before going to the stop between Ray’s Food Place and the St. Charles clinic. There will be signage at each stop along the fixed route with time points at East Main and Ray’s. The proposed schedule can be found on the CET website (http://cascadeseast transit.com). There will be no flag stops along the routes; riders must be at one of the fixed locations. All buses are ADA compliant. In Bend, riders will be taken to the bus hub at Hawthorn and 4th Street, where they will be able to transfer to inner- city buses for other points in Bend. The Redmond-Sisters buses and the Tuesday bus within Sisters will remain unchanged. The Redmond- Sisters ridership grew from 2,689 in 2015 to 5,292 in 2016. The doubled ridership is attributed to 26 students who utilize the bus to the Heart of Oregon Corps on Highway 126 and George Cyrus Road, as well as stu- dents from Sisters who ride into Redmond to attend the Redmond Proficiency Academy. The central bus hub in Redmond will be moving in the fall of 2017 to the area by Lowe’s and Fred Meyer. The Sisters City Council approved the biennial agree- ment between CET and Sisters. Missing dog found nine months later A Christmas miracle occurred at the Humane Society of Central Oregon when Gracie, a four-year- old border collie mix, arrived after being missing since March 13. The owner was visiting Bend when her dog escaped. In a desperate attempt to find her beloved dog before she had to leave Bend, the owner reported her dog miss- ing to the Humane Society of Central Oregon (HSCO), placed posters up, posted ads on Craigslist and social media. She called in monthly to update her lost report at HSCO, and checked HSCO’s website every other day to see if her dog arrived at the shelter. Gracie was first sighted a month ago at the Knott Landfill, and consistently seen over a period of four days. Andy Cleland, a USDA wildlife specialist, set a live trap in the hopes of catching the dog in the frigid temper- atures and deep snow. The trap was checked three times a day, and Gracie was finally found trapped inside. She is in relatively good condition for a dog on her own for nine months. The dog had a microchip identification that confirmed the dog’s owner. Tears of joy and words of disbelief were heard when the owner was told her dog was found. Gracie will be reunited with her family on Wednesday, December 28, when the MORE THAN DENTURES, IT’S YOUR SMILE!
