8 Wednesday, December 7, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Obituaries Wrestlers grapple at invitational Carolyn Ann Asson October 19, 1937 — December 1, 2016 By Rongi Yost Carolyn Ann Asson, 79, passed away in the early morning of December 1, in her home, at peace and comfortable with her family by her side. Carolyn was born October 19, 1937, in Salem, Oregon to Alphon and Dorothy Cramer. She met her husband in 1956 at the University of Portland where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Carolyn and David were married January 9, 1960, and lived in Santa Monica and Sunnyvale, California for a few years, then 44 years in Beaverton, Oregon, before retiring in Sisters in 2006. Carolyn had a long career as a registered nurse, always working tirelessly for others. She raised four children, Kathy, David, Steven and Kenneth, with endless love and strong val- ues of kindness, character and education. Carolyn was an accomplished pianist, an excellent cook, a crack bridge player, and loved to take trips to Reno with her husband to try beating the slot machines and blackjack tables. Carolyn is survived by her husband David and her four children, Kathy Peterson of Sisters; David Correspondent Nancy Cowan Nancy Cowan of Sisters, wife of Jim Cowan, passed away Sunday morn- ing, December 4, resting comfortably in her own home. Services for family and friends will be held Friday, December 9 at 1 p.m. at Niswonger-Reynolds funeral home in Bend, Oregon. Please favor a charity in lieu of floral remembrances. The wrestling team com- peted at the Perry Burlison Invitational on Saturday, December 3 among 23 teams. Marshfield took top honors with 183 points. Sweet Home was runner-up with 152.5, and North Marion took third with 145 points. The Dalles, West Albany, Thurston, Silverton, Evergreen, Lebanon, Junction City, North Salem, Stayton, Siuslaw, Crescent Valley, Stuccoes, South Salem, Cascade, Cottage Grove, Phil moth, Sisters, Gervais, Yamhill-Carlton and McKay also competed in the tourney. Sisters had 21 matmen wrestle at the top-notch tourna- ment, and all saw some tough competition. Several Outlaws won matches. Martin took sixth in the tournament at 182 pounds. Coach John Downs said, “I felt the team needed to go to this tournament this year to see the caliber of wrestlers we will meet at our regional tour- nament. Out of the 23 teams at the tournament, eight of them are in our regional tour- nament. It is difficult for us to know what to expect once we get to the end of the sea- son when all we wrestle are teams in Central Oregon. All of our regional teams are in the Valley area.
