Cascade Ave. Chocolate is one of the staple food groups of the holiday season. Each year, Sisters Kiwanis Club leads the populace of Sisters Country into temptation — but for a good cause. Their See’s Candies trailer is open in the Ray’s Food Place parking lot, dispensing the boxed chocolates that have been a popular gift for generations. Proceeds from the sales of the See’s Candies help fund Kiwanis’ many outreach programs in Sisters — from scholarships to the food bank; from visits by the dental van to Camp Sunrise, a retreat for bereaved children. Kiwanis also supports Sisters Family Access Network, the Sisters High School Key Club and the SMART reading program, among many others. So a box of chocolates — or two or three — is more than a guilty pleasure. It’s a gift that gives in multiple ways.
