Wednesday, August 17, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 11 Artists featured in Fourth Friday event photo provided camp Sherman’s cabins have a long and interesting history. Celebrating centennial of Camp Sherman Cabins The Camp Sherman Historical Society will mark the centennial of the first leases signed with Forest Service that allowed the building of the familiar cabins along the Metolius River in an event on August 27. The public is invited to join in. The event will start with a gathering at the Camp Sherman Store at 1 p.m., where speakers will share information. “We will have someone from each of the first three cabins speaking about their history and ties to Sherman County,” said Scott Blau of the Camp Sherman Historical Society. “There’s one cabin that still has the original own- ers. We collected stories on most of the 30 cabins around the store.” The Deschutes National Forest archeologist will pro- vide some background infor- mation as well. A booklet with histories of about 30 cab- ins near the Camp Sherman Store will be available to use for a self-guided walking tour.
