SHS Freshmen Orientation Monday, August 29, new student orientation at Sisters High School is from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. for incoming freshman. There will be large- and small-group activities (team-building, discussion skills, etc.). After lunch, students receive locker assignments and run through a short version of their schedule. Interpretive Walk The Notables in Concert All are invited to enjoy the big band sounds of The Notables on Sunday, August 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. The concert is free with donations accepted for the veterans support group Warfi ghter Outfi tters; Brent Miller will give a short presentation on the organization. Free Bike Rides & Hikes Sisters Trails Alliance offers free guided mountain bike rides and hikes leaving from Sisters Park & Recreation District, as follows: August 24, 4 to 6 p.m. (moderate ride); August 31, 9 to 11 a.m. (easy ride); Sept. 14, 9 to 11 a.m. (moderate hike); Sept. 21, 9 to 11 a.m. (moderate hike). SHS Transfer Students Open House (Grades 10-12) On Saturday, August 20 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., join Friends of the Metolius and Carol Wall in a walk near the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery to observe and learn about birds of the area. Sisters-Camp Sherman RFPD will offer the AHA Heartsaver First Aid and CPR/AED class at the Sisters Fire Hall Saturday, September 17 from 9 a.m to about 4:30 p.m. Class size is limited to 12, so register early! To run you must be registered to vote in Oregon and a resident of the City of Sisters for 12 months preceding the election. Candidates should pick up materials at Sisters City Hall this week and must submit perfected petitions by 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 30 to qualify for the ballot. Questions? Camp Sherman Celebration Saturday, August 27 at 1 p.m. at the Camp Sherman Store, the Camp Sherman Historical Society will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the construction of the fi rst three cabins along the Metolius River. Auction Items Needed for Fundraiser for Veloso On Thursday, September 15 at The Belfry, a fundraiser to help with medical bills will be held for Justin Veloso who is battling cancer. Sisters Kiwanis presents the Hoodoo Challenge Saturday, September 24, a half-marathon fundraiser for scholarships and community projects.
