New school supplies for kids in need can be dropped off now at Sisters Les Schwab. Items needed are: 1.5" 3-ring notebooks, notebook paper & dividers, 2-pocket folders, index cards, wooden rulers, 3-ring zip pencil pouches, pencil boxes, pens, pencils, colored pencils, white erasers, yellow highlighters & backpacks for all ages. Free Bike Rides & Hikes Sisters Trails Alliance offers free guided mountain bike rides and hikes leaving from Sisters Park & Recreation District. Disc Golf Clinic Deschutes Library will partner with Central Oregon Disc Golf Club for a free disc golf clinic at Hyzer Pines (next to SPRD) on Saturday, August 6 at 9 a.m. Participants will receive a free disc golf putter. On Thursday, August 11 at the Village Green Park, Sisters Park & Recreation District will present their 3rd annual Luau at 6:30 p.m., with great food and live entertainment, including music by Mele’uhane, a father- son duo from the Big Island. Election to City Council In the Nov. 8 General Election there will be three open positions on the Sisters City Council. You must be registered to vote in Oregon and a resident of the City of Sisters for 12 months preceding the election. Materials are at City Hall; candidates should pick up by August 16 and must submit perfected petitions by 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 30 to qualify for the ballot. Interpretive Bird Walk Saturday, July 30 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., join Friends of the Metolius and Carol Wall in a bird walk in Camp Sherman. SHS Fall Sports Registration Sisters High School Athletic offi ce is open for registration, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8 through Friday, Aug. 12. On Thursday, August 11, registration takes place 5:30 to 7 p.m., with mandatory player/parent meeting from 7 to 8 p.m., required for all players and families who are participating. Students must be fully cleared with completed paperwork, physicals, fees and any fi nes before the fi rst day of practice Monday, August 15. The Hoodoo Challenge: Run to the Top! Sisters Kiwanis presents the Hoodoo Challenge Saturday, September 24, a half-marathon fundraiser for scholarships and community projects. The 13.1- mile race at Hoodoo will have 1,035' elevation gain and be limited to 200 runners/walkers. Sign up at ultrasignup.com. The $70 fee ($85 after August 23) includes a T-shirt and after-party.
