Wednesday, July 27, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 11 terrebonne man has home raided Half-marathon entices runners/walkers BROOKINGS (AP) — Authorities have raided the home of a Central Oregon man who they say has been trafficking methamphetamine in the region for a long period of time. Police had been investi- gating the suspect for several months before his Saturday arrest. He was held on sus- picion of possession, deliv- ery and manufacture of meth before posting 10 percent of $65,000 bail. Authorities say the suspect Sisters Kiwanis is orga- nizing a half-marathon (13.1 miles) called The Hoodoo Challenge. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the race will support the Sisters Kiwanis Club scholarships and community service projects. The half-marathon with 1,035 feet of elevation gain is scheduled for September 24. Runners and walkers are welcome; however, no pets are allowed. The race is lim- ited to 200 participants. The estimated course completion time for most runners is from two to four hours, while the estimated time for walkers is from four to six hours. The race course passes Island, Link and Sand Lakes and is relatively flat with a few roll- ing hills. The end of the race course has an elevation climb of 1,035 feet to the summit of Hoodoo. After finishing the race, participants can walk back down to the parking lot. The entry fee is $70 through August 23 and $85 after August 23. (For Hoodoo season pass holders, the entry fee is $50.) The barbecue is free for participants and $10/person for families and friends that would like to join in the food. There will also be a vendor area set up in the parking lot. The Hoodoo Challenge replaces last year’s Black Butte Challenge. The Hoodoo course is a longer course and can accommodate more par- ticipants. Kiwanis is working in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, McKenzie River Ranger District and Sisters Ranger District. They allegedly found $30,000 in cash in his pickup truck. Detectives also executed a search warrant on the man’s Terrebonne home, where they say they found meth, drug records and a gun. Bend police Lt. Ken Mannix also says two of the suspect’s vehicles were seized. The case remains under investigation. Oregonian seeks restraining order for sheriff’s emails PORTLAND (AP) — The Oregonian is asking a state judge for a temporary restraining order to keep the Grant County Sheriff from deleting his government emails. The Oregonian / OregonLive reports that their lawyers asked for the restraining order on Friday. They say Sheriff Glenn Palmer “systematically” destroys his official emails in a potentially criminal practice PAIN? that should be stopped. Portland lawyer Charles Hinkle says Palmer deletes every email that he sends or receives to the email address that is posted on the sheriff’s office’s website. Hinkle says the sheriff continued to delete them even after receiving a public records request for them.
