8 Wednesday, April 6, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Boys lacrosse suffers tough losses By Rongi yost Correspondent The boys lacrosse team suffered two tough losses this past week. Sisters lost 15-3 at South Eugene on Monday, March 28; and on Friday, April 1, they fell 16-3 at home against Marist. I n M o n d a y ’s g a m e against South Eugene, the Outlaws were held scoreless in the first quarter, while the Axemen tallied three goals to take the lead. Ethan Morgan scored an unassisted goal in the second quarter to get Sisters on the scoreboard, but at the half the Outlaws trailed 7-1. The Outlaws got a goal from Morgan again in the third, with an assist from Bennett Lewis. Coach Eric Wentzel told The Nugget that the goal was an exam- ple of the teamwork that the Outlaws have been working on in practice. Morgan cut through the slot and Bennett had a nice pass to Ethan in a tight space, which he was able to bury into the back of the net. Freshman Jude Carhart scored unassisted for his first goal of the season — and Sisters’ final goal of the game. Senior Chase Lawrence did a great job at face-offs, and won 13 of 16 for over 80 percent. Samson Magnus led the team with nine ground balls. “This was a tough game for the team, with several key players missing due to spring break,” said Wentzel. “It is also the first time most of the team has played on a turf field, which is very dif- ferent than grass. “South Eugene was com- prised of all juniors and We continue to see improvements with the team as a whole, even though the scoreboard doesn’t always show this... — Coach eric Wentzel seniors, and it was a little intimidating to our younger players. The good news is that they held their ground, especially toward the end of the game. I’m proud of our team and how we finished the fourth quarter, and held our opponent to one goal.” On Friday, the Outlaws suffered another big loss against the Spartans. Sisters held their own at the start of the game, and at the end of the first quarter they were down by just one at 2-1. Sisters’ goal came from Samson Magnus with an assist from Jude Carhart. Marist completely took over and put in 14 addi- tional goals before the buzzer finally sounded. Sisters did have four shots go off the goal pipes, which if they had been just one inch inside, would have resulted in goals. Goalie Casey Warburton had a great first quarter with seven saves, which held the score to 2-1 as they headed into the second quarter.
