Nonetheless, a total of 452 runners completed their respective courses, making it the largest overall finish number since the race began back in 2003. Race director Sean Meissner could not recall temperatures climbing into the mid-70s in previous years. “That made it a little tougher than normal, espe- cially for the 40-milers,” he said. “The silver lining is that the fantastic weather made the post-race hang-out condi- tions very pleasant for all the tired runners as they feasted on food and drink on the infield of the track,” he said. Ian Dobson, Rimrock Ranch to be acquired for habitat The Deschutes Land Trust announced Monday that it has finalized an agreement to purchase 1,120 acres of land along Whychus Creek north- east of Sisters. The agreement allows the Land Trust to raise the funds necessary to pur- chase Rimrock Ranch. This iconic property includes rugged canyons, pine forests, and almost two miles of Whychus Creek. Rimrock is home to a variety of wildlife species including salmon and steelhead, mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, golden eagles, and numerous bats, raptors, and songbirds. According to Oregon State Police, troopers and emer- gency personnel responded on April 5, at about 5:21 p.m., to the report of a multiple- vehicle crash on Highway 126 near milepost 98 at the intersection of Holmes/ Fryrear Road. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Ford Escort sedan was traveling southbound on Holmes Road when it failed to obey the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 126.
