America’s BattleoftheBooksisaread- ing incentive program for studentsinthirdthrough12th grades. Students read books andcometogetherusuallyin groups to demonstrate their abilitiesandtesttheirknowl- edgeofthebookstheyread. Registrationofteamsand trainingforvolunteersstarts at8a.m.andmatchesbegin at 9 a.m. Teams from four Eastern Oregon counties in divisions 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 willcompete.Thetopteams ineachdivisionwillmoveon tocompeteatthestateOBOB finalsonApril9atChemeketa CommunityCollegeinSalem. AttheregionalBattleofthe Bookstournament,48teams will participate in a round- robin, quiz-style competi- tionhostedbySistersMiddle School.Student-teamsineach divisionreadupto16books andanswerquestionsonthe contentofthosebookswritten byvolunteerteamsofteach- ers, librarians, and others. Participationinthecompe- titionfostersaloveofreading instudentsandcangenerate much excitement about aca- demicachievement.Thepro- gramcontinuestogroweach yeartothepointnowwhere thousandsofstudentspartici- pateattheschoollevelinthis importantliteraryenterprise.
