Sign up now for Sisters Little League Registration is now open for Sisters Little League’s 2016 season. Sisters youth ages 4 to 14 can participate in Little League. Registrations are taken at Sisters Park & Recreation District either over the phone, online, or in person. Registering your child prior to February 29 saves $10 on the registration fee and allows each participant the opportunity to access open gym time twice per week. Families who register their child prior to the end of February will also be allowed to participate in the skills camp held at the Bend Elks indoor facility on March 12. Cost to participate in Little League ranges from $75 to $115 for the season, and scholarships are available. Since 2010 the Ian Ferguson Memorial Scholarship Fund has helped over 75 athletes play baseball in Sisters. Little League starts with T-ball for children ages 4 to 6 and runs through the juniors for kids under 14. Approximately 125 girls and boys play Little League in Sisters, and the Ian Ferguson Memorial Scholarship Fund has been able to scholarship nearly 10 percent every year. Ian “Fergie” Ferguson, a standout athlete for the Sisters Outlaws (1997) died in a 2009 car accident in Fresno, California. Ian loved base- ball and Little League, and a scholarship fund was started in his name. This special fund is to be held for the exclusive purpose of providing league membership dues or equip- ment to children in need that would otherwise be unable to play Little League baseball for financial reasons. “Ian was fun-loving, loyal, hard-working, fair and hon- est; these are the qualities we hope to encourage by help- ing kids from this community participate in youth baseball,” says sister Mary (Ferguson) Dethlefs. “It’s hard to think of someone who better repre- sented the ideal character of not only our town of Sisters, but also youth sports.” For registration infor- mation on Sisters Little League and information on the Ian Ferguson Memorial Scholarship Fund visit www. Box 951, Sisters, Oregon 97759. Sisters High School’s annual fundraising pag- eant, Mr. SHS, is well underway. The 2016 Mr. SHS Pasta Feed will be held on February 21, at 6 p.m. at Sisters Community Church. There will be a silent auc- tion, as well as a cake auction where bidders bid on cakes made by the contestants and their escorts. There will also be a labor auction where the winner gets three hours of work done for them by one of the contestants. All the proceeds made will go to Sisters Family Access Network (FAN). Tickets will be sold by contestants and their escorts, and are also avail- able at the door. Tickets are $5 per person and children under 5 years old get in free. It’s still winter, but Sisters Kiwanis is already think- ing of Memorial Day week- end and its annual Antiques, Collectibles & “Bling” sale. Kiwanis is asking residents to make donations for the sale to be held on Saturday, May 28, at the Sisters Fire Hall. Donations are requested — antiques, collectibles and jewelry of any kind (costume, vintage, watches, rings, reli- gious). Jewelry (aka “bling”) was included in the sale for the first time last year. Karen Keady, the Kiwanian who manages the jewelry sale, noted that the 2015 bling sale was a huge success, with massive amounts of jewelry donated and sold. Jewelry and small boxes can be dropped off to Karen Keady at Essentials Salon, 492 E. Main Ave. (next to The Nugget Newspaper office and kitty-corner from Sisters Library). All donations are fully tax-deductible; Kiwanis will provide donation receipts on request. The antique sale is a fund- raiser for Sisters Kiwanis; all proceeds are distributed locally to service organiza- tions such as Sisters Park & Recreation District, Outlaw Sports, Boy Scouts, Family Access Network, the den- tal van and many others. Scholarships are also awarded to high school students and local residents making a major career change. In the past five years, sale pro- ceeds have given more than $20,000 to Sisters students and organizations.
