Wednesday, July 29, 2015 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 5 Driver killed in Highway 20 wreck near Sisters Driver fatigue is cited as a cause of a fatal single-vehi- cle wreck on Highway 20 on Friday, July 24. According to Oregon State Police troopers and emer- gency personnel responded just before 6 a.m. to the report of a single-vehicle crash off the roadway on Highway 20 near milepost 98 just west of Sisters. Initial information indi- cates a 1996 Honda was traveling eastbound on Highway 20 when it left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle came to rest on its side. Upon emergency crews arriving, they found the driver, Troy A. Crabb, age 35, of Blue River, dead. “It appears fatigue is a con- tributing factor to the crash,” OSP reports. OSP was assisted by the Deschutes County Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation. Correspondent Sisters City Council allo- cated $17,500 in their annual awarding of community- service grants to local non- profits and other entities that serve the Sisters community. The organizations that receive the grants must meet certain criteria: provide assis- tance for essential utilities, food, clothing or shelter; provide educational or recre- ational opportunities for chil- dren or seniors; and generate/ support economic activity in Sisters. Each grantee must also submit to the City at the end of the budget year a let- ter outlining exactly how the funds were used. The organizations receiv- ing the grants this year are: • Circle of Friends, $1,500 for project support, materials, and supplies • Deschutes Public Library System, $2,000 for early- learning space in Sisters Library • Family Action Network, $2,500 to provide water, sewer, and garbage vouchers • Habitat for Humanity, $1,000 for campground vouchers for volunteers • Seed to Table Program, $1,000 to expand education and food-bank production • Sisters Community Garden, $1,500 for garden capital improvements • Sisters Folk Festival Inc., $1,000 for Americana Project scholarships • Sisters Schools Foundation, $3,000 for cur- riculum supplementation • SMART, $500 to pur- chase books and recruit volunteers • Sisters Park & Recreation District, $3,000 to provide scholarships for pro- gram participation • VFW, $500 for posting 125 flags on Cascade Avenue.
