Wednesday, May 6, 2015 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 13 Fundraiser to aid women in Africa On Saturday, May 16, a fundraiser will be held in Sisters to support Sustainable Health Enterprises (SHE), a nonprofit organization pro- viding training and sustain- able solutions to health issues of women and girls in sub- Saharan Africa. Bella Wiener, a Bend High School senior, has orga- nized a charity climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro in support of SHE and to spark awareness of a persistent taboo holding back millions of girls and women: menstruation. Wo m e n m i s s w o r k monthly and girls miss school monthly. Bella’s total fund- raising goal is $60,000. Plants, art work, and books are being sold to sup- port this endeavour. Peter and Sandy Brown at 68880 Chestnut Dr., Sisters, above the Sisters airport, are hosting the event. The Browns’ lovely garden was selected for the Sisters Garden Tour of 2013. Sandy Brown has donated some of her artistic watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings as well as framing and matting mate- rials. Many colors of full- sized mats are being offered; full lengths of framing stock and completed frames, old and new, are also for purchase. Framed prints of well- known Alaskan and several Oregonian artists are also being sold. Pottery is avail- able as well: decorative bowls, bottles, tiles, wall pieces. Books include both hardbacks and paperbacks: novels, mysteries, fiction and non-fiction.
