Fundraiser to aid
women in Africa
On Saturday, May 16, a
fundraiser will be held in
Sisters to support Sustainable
Health Enterprises (SHE), a
nonprofit organization pro-
viding training and sustain-
able solutions to health issues
of women and girls in sub-
Saharan Africa.
Bella Wiener, a Bend
High School senior, has orga-
nized a charity climb up Mt.
Kilimanjaro in support of
SHE and to spark awareness
of a persistent taboo holding
back millions of girls and
women: menstruation.
Wo m e n m i s s w o r k
monthly and girls miss school
monthly. Bella’s total fund-
raising goal is $60,000.
Plants, art work, and
books are being sold to sup-
port this endeavour.
Peter and Sandy Brown at
68880 Chestnut Dr., Sisters,
above the Sisters airport,
are hosting the event. The
Browns’ lovely garden
was selected for the Sisters
Garden Tour of 2013. Sandy
Brown has donated some of
her artistic watercolor, oil
and acrylic paintings as well
as framing and matting mate-
rials. Many colors of full-
sized mats are being offered;
full lengths of framing stock
and completed frames,
old and new, are also for
purchase.
Framed prints of well-
known Alaskan and several
Oregonian artists are also
being sold. Pottery is avail-
able as well: decorative
bowls, bottles, tiles, wall
pieces. Books include both
hardbacks and paperbacks:
novels, mysteries, fiction and
non-fiction.
The fundraiser will run
Saturday, May 16, from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m.
