Hood collapsed GOVERNMENT CAMP (AP) — Part of a historic glacier cave has collapsed on Mount Hood. KGW-TV reports climber Brent McGregor of Sisters found the collapsed cave, named Snow Dragon, at the end of January. McGregor and his climb- ing partner first discovered Snow Dragon and two other glacier caves five years ago, buried beneath the Sandy Glacier on the northwest side of the mountain. He says the caves had more than a hundred feet of ice above them at that time. McGregor thought it would take 10 or more years for the ice to melt. But last year, he says, massive holes started forming at the top of the caves, leading to Snow Dragon’s collapse. McGregor says other caves will likely meet the same fate soon. He warns the melting ice makes exploring the caves dangerous. And this year the Outlaws team brought home the prestigious Silver Boot Award for best team spirit. “Team spirit is an integral part of our team,” said Coach Greg Ausman. “We have great team camaraderie. We cheer for each other on the race course and help each other during practice. Sportsmanship is about being humble when you win and congratulating the winners when you don’t. And the par- ents of the Sisters kids vol- unteer at the races more than any other team in the league. We may be the smallest team in the league, but we have the most team spirit.” And the athletes think so, too.
