PAGE FUCR. DAILY CAPITA! JOCRNAIi, SALEM, OREGOX, SATURDAY, MAT 13, 1011. WILL SLART REPAIR WORK NEXT MONDAY BOARD DECIDED Tins MORX1XG TO BEGIN REPAIRIXG ASYLUM ! AT OXCE COWICTS WILL DO MUCH OF THE W ORK. At a meeting of the state board thjj morning U was decided to Imme diately repair the damage done to the south wing of the asylum by fire last evening, and Monday morning a crew of men will be at worlc tearing down the damaged portion of the structure, and clearing away the debris. Section 2665 of Lord's Oregon Code provides that, before the state board can call upon the treasurer to draw a warrant to cover the amount of mon ey necessary for the repair of the building that an appraisement must be made by a commissioner appointed by the governor. Governor West ap pointed State Architect Knighton to make the appraisement, and report back to the board, and he has entered upon the work. The damage is roughly estimated at $15,000, and it Is predicted that the report of the architect will show that at least that amount of money will be necessary to repair the build ing. To make the repairs It will be necessary to create a deficiency, and It will be the first created under the present administration. Most of the repair work on the In stitution will be done "by convict la bor. The latest estimate of the damage ays It will be below $5000.
