The danger of being run-down by a horse is a very real one to everybody, the danger of being mur dered bv a microbe does not trouble u. And yet the minute mi crobe it more dangerous than the wildest horse. The only people who can afford not to fear the mi- "" crobes of disease are those who keep their blood pure aud rich. These are prac tical! v immune from the attacks of most microbes. Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discov ery purifies and enriches the blood, and gives the body a vigorous vitality. It cures scrofula, eczema, boils, pimples and other eruptive diseases which are caused by impure blood. "I had been troubled Tor about Tour years with eci-ma, or a, sklu disease, which tt times was almost unbearable as it would itch so," -writes Mr, John Larison. of mj Powhattsn St, Daltai, Texas. "I concluded to try Dr. Pierce's Oolden Medical Discorery, and after using fire bottles found that I was entirely cured. Pleas accept many thanks," Accept no substitute for "Golden Med ical Discovery." There is nothing "just as good" for diseases of the blood. Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets cure con stipation and its consequences. Hops All Right. Jack Johnson, of Woodburn, was In the city yesterday, and he says the hop crop on French Prairie Is all right. The yield will bo largo and the quality fine. He says he will clear about $10,000 this year on hlsi yards. They may keep Jack from being high sheriff of Marlon county, but they can't keep him from making ten times as much money as a sheriff gets. MARRIED. SHIPMAN COM STOCK. GREATER SALEM CLUB Has Secured a New Secretary Pro Temp Undertaking to Promote an Extensive Movement of Broken Rock Roads Hon. J. G. Graham, secretary of the Greater Salem Commercial Club, left todaj for a month's vacation in the East, visiting tho cities of Chicago and New York, and Incidentally call Ing on the immigration headquarters In tho interest of the club and this part of the state. Mr. Graham has secured tho ser vices or B. Frank Meredith as sec rptdry pro temp, during hls absence, and tho clubs headquarters will be at Mr. Meredith's office until Graham's return. The Correspondence Committee. Work on this lino, as outlined by Tom Richardson and the State Devel opment League, will be pushed in Mr. Graham's absence. Dally meetings of the executive commlUee aro to bo hold, and the formation of tho com mittee rapidly extended. Tho folder recently Issued by tho club will be nsod extensively, nnd Mr. Graham's efforts was embodied in a four-page, illustrated write-up of Marlon county and Salem In the August issue of tho Northwest Empire, 100,000 copies of which were Issued. A special fund will bo raised for this work of direct coi respondence. Pushing Rock Roads. The officers of tho Commorolal Club are pushing a broken fock road movement that will, It Is hoped, even tuate In tho construction of these su perior' road ways on a large scale. Tho committee, headed by Engineer H. B, Thlelson, who visited tho granite quarry of tho Santlam, wero favorably Impressed with that matorJal, and Mr. Thlolsen does not hesltato to say that ho will recommend tho use of the granite with other material for roads and streets Tho president of tho club is in .correspondence with tho freight departments of tho Southern Pacific and the Corvallls & Eastern, and Ih promised a Joint rate at an early day that will lay Jown tho crushed granite in any city or at any siding In Marlon or Linn counties nt an almost nom inal rate. Then If tho local district road tax will bo expended In grading up and draining tho roads, and the county can buy the broken metal, and tho farmers can haul It out, thua unit ing tho Interests and public spirit of tho locality, tho resources of tho rail road, and tho backing of the county municipality, making It light for all. A Great Advertisement. Broken rock roads are no longor an experiment. Tho people aro gottlng to know tholr morlts. There Is no ox cuso for spondlng monoy on Inferior material, when broken granite or trap rock can bo obtained. A railway com panjt would not buy and lay down soft Iron rails nowadays, whon stool rails are obtainable Granlto U tho best toad' material known. It Is bellovod it can bo crushed and laid down at sid ings and for streots of cities so cheap ly that no other surface -material will bo In demand. Of course, this do IK'iida some on tho rates made by tho railroads. A nominal rato that would result in tho largest possible uso of granite for roadway would be In tho liitorost of those corporations. Fig urea will bo In tho possession of tho Greater Salem Commorclnl club that will settlo tho matter In tho minds of tho peoplo forovor. Thoro will be no greater advertisement for Salem, and this whole valley than to have it pub licly deeldod that granite roads wore to be constructed on a larger scalo nnd that the larger iwwurs of tho community had agreed on such a oll cy, and had deliberately decided to carry It Into effect , You Can't Afford To walk to or from tho dopot whon you can havo a cab take you for 25c Simpson's Atablos, opposite tho court house, ..- o Ameng: tho intorebtlng animals In IMngling Brothers' zoological display this soasort is 'Daby Boo." tho only baby elephant born and successfully reared in America; two splendid epec I mens of the practically extinct gi raffe, two-horned horses, several royal Bengal tlgoro, a bl -horned rhinoceros, the only one in captivity and many other animals, including 40 trained el. ephante BS vV lBsssaBa Baaa c& Bsb 8bV BsbB Tho Kind You Ilnvo Always Bought, nnd which has boon, in uso for over 30 years, has borno tho signatnro of jrjtf nnd has bcou inndo under his por- CjCJ&'ffi'?fc sonal supervision Blnco its infancy. uzr7rt 6CAVX Allow no ono to dccolvo you In this.
