From tbo countless millions of fish crowding Its thousands of rirers to tho still more countless millions of game birds In the. cover of bcr limit less forests and plains, the broad land Is life-sustaining from tho Pacific to tho Arctic Ocean, from the great lakes at tho head of the Yukon to the Behring Sea. Volumes could be written on tho subject of tho inexhaustible resources of tho country, and were a man to do Justice to the whole subject, some of the stories would sound like the exaggerations of a person suffering from an abnormally developed imagi nation. Principally the salmon eanenries of Alaska produce at the present time more than 09 per cent of all the sal raoa canned In tho hele world, and tho industry Is still In Its Infancy With the rapid development of the salmon hatcheries and a more ra tional management, the whole catch of the rest of the world will be equal to only a fraction of tho annual out put of Alaska. Hut salmon Is not the only Ash schooling on the Alaskan coast and Its outlying banks. The output of the herring fisheries, that were started only two or three years ago. has al ready reached a magnificent proper tlon and will In tho near future be second to none In tho world, the tre mendous herring fisheries of Norway not excepted. Immense Fisheries. Bvorybody has heard something at the cod fisheries of Newfoundland or of Dogger banks of Lofoddeu la Nnr way. llut some day there will be reports from Alaekan cod banks that tv tit redne these now famous fishing grounds to comparative inaigRlft- jcance.
