MURDERED BY INDIANS. Demino, N. M., Aug. 2J.-P.irtle3 who nrrived yesterday from the le hachita mountains confirm the re port of mutder, by Apaches, of three miners, named Alf. Williams, Carl Ehrmnn and Peter HlBS. wltu' Uealli or Nicholas Liming. Nicholas Lumug. the millionaire, uiul of heart disease in his rooms in the Palace Hotel, San Francisco, shortly after midnight on the mor- utiigofthe 12th. During the day he appeared tobei.i his usual good health and spirits and he took a long walk in the afternoon aud another tramp soon after dinner. In the evening lie accompanied his Msier-tu-iaw, .Mis-. Demjisey, to the theatre, returning to his apartments about 11 o'clock. Soon after he rea ched his room he became ill, aud a little after midiiL'ht he passed away. Deceased was born hi Ilunburg, Germany, and wa'.i.ty-eight years ofagp. He came to San Francisco hi lSJOand bee line a money-lender in a small way, advancing money at the ruling iutere5t, which was then enormous. In UiU way he laid the foundation for his vast for tune. At the time of tho failure of the Bank of California he was repu ted to be the wealthiest man in San Francisco. By industry, economy and a natural shrewdness in business he amazed a fortune estimated to bebeU-een $12,000,0)0 and H-3,000,- 000. His estate consists ol real estate in all parts of the city and state, bank, insurance and mining stocks aud railroad bonds. All of his prop erty is rapidly increasing iu value. He was a large share-holder in the Bank of California. But few jieople know much of Mr. Luning's busi ness afl'airs, as he was a very reser ved, uncommunicative person, who kept his own council on all per taiuiug to his piivnto afl'airs. Al thouch he lived in the United States the better pait of his life l.e i never became a citizen. Mr. Lulling was a widower for many years; he occupied a suite of apartments at the Palace Hotel, where he leslded with ' his daughters. His surviving chil-, dren are two sons, John N. Liming i who is In New York, and O-car , Luuing, who is in San .io-e, aud three daughters, all of w horn are married, by name, Mrs George) Whittell, Mrs. George S. Fife and j Mrs. John M. Cunningham. ; The will of the deceased was filed for probate by George Whittell nud Marlon B. Laughorne, who are .,ni,inii n tho executors. Of the next senatorial election in Oregon the Portland Welcome says: It is being somewhat hoarsely whis pered that there promises to be a clash of interests next January iu the legislature over tho senatorial election. Possibly, but it will amount to little If there is. Senator Mitchell will he his own successor, if ho lives, and he is too strongly fortified for any successful raid to be made upon his entrench ments. All tho talk about ex-Gov. Moody, Rocky Earhart, or any uno else succeeding Seuator Mitchell emanates from tho small frv politi cians, who are always like the Irishman that returned home in high dudgeon from the funeral of his brother because there had been no row to enliven the affair. The Dolph faction will be still as mice, ottering no antagonism anil iu fact will support him, since the senior senator, though scarcely yet upon the threshold of his second term, is looking forward to a third. That is anticipating exceedingly, to be sure, but Oregon politics are becoming more and nioie manipu lated with a view to the future. A Cure for Sick Headache.
