TO Marled master Ilunyard acting on bohaUyVo,f thgt.famersJn tho valley w'ip nro offering produce for sale at tho public market and also for the good of tho market will recom mend o tho city council that the nnul.'i ho cponed for business but three days each week Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, instead of each day In tho week as at present. The farmers state that they can visit tho, market only every- otjier day needing tho intervening time lo care for their gardens and to pre pare produce for sale. On tho other 1iand three days a, week, will be an advantage to the housewives of the city as they only buy every other day and by fixing specified days a great offering will bo found at the mar ket. Tho council Is said to be fav prablo to such a change. PLANNED BY LADIES Preparations have been completed for. the banquet to bo given by the Iadics of the Greater Medford club at the Hotel Medford next Monday night to which all tho members of tho commercial club are Invited. Tic kets will be sold for $1 a plate. Tho banquet will be an elaborate one. A program of speaking has been arranged, in -order to -discuss many matters of interest to Medford at this lime. TO CRATER LAKE KLAMATH PALLS, June . 19. -Superintendent Arant has sent n crew of men ami a team io Fort Klamath to begin work in clearing the road between that place and Crater Lake. This work will lie cfutiuued as rapid ly as the snow disappears go it enji be done. Afi the snows yo oft' this crew will follow the line and clean nut tho fallen timber and brush nn'd .fill the ruts washed out in the high ways. They will ako put down the bridges and get the road pussnble just us soon as it is possible for traf fic to the lake. WOULD BEAUTIFY- PARK STRIPS IN CITY An ordinance demanding the grad ing and beautifying of tbu parking strip through tho gjty was read at the council .meeting Tuesday night and will bo brought up for definite settlement in tho near future. In cases of non-compliance to the ordinance the city will have tho right to order tho work dono and tho dst assessed against tho property, which will bo collected In a like manner to tho collection for street Improve ment. It is also likely that tho council will Impose a flue for cases of non-compliance. Incidentally several streets were ordered paved and resolutions for tho paving of others were heard. No remonstrances wero heard on any of thu streets upon which remonstranco wap called for at Tuesday nlght'u meeting. This is a new feature, as most streots huvo been subjected to from ono to thrco remonstrances in tho past. A posslblo reason for this lack of interest by tho citizens Is found In tho fact that many of tho taxpayers huvo not located any of tho flvp "conspicuous" places upon which tho ordinances of Improve aneut wro postod. MARKET OPEN HE AY IK BANQUET NEW DISTRIBUTIVE THE Interstate Commerce Commission' s decision in the ease brought by the, Medford Traffic bureau to secure distributive rates to California points from Medford has been received. The decision was written by Commis sioner Kranlclin K. Lane. In it ho states: "The rates complained of from Medford to most of the .points in question, for the short distance to which they apply, arc considerablv greater than the rates applicable to the same classes for the very much longer distances from Portland to Sacrameuto and, San Francisco. "After full hearing and consideration we find the rate existing over defendant's line from Medford to the points of destination named to be unreasonable,'' and the order as follows made for reductien: "It is ordered, that said defendant (the Southern l?a eifio Company) be. and it is hereby, notified and required to cease and desist on or beforu the loth dav of .lulv, 19112, and for a period of not less than two years thereafter abstain from exacting its present class rates for the trans portation of traffic in clauses 1 to 4, inclusive, from Med ford, Oregon, to certain stations in California named." - The old rates are as follews: From Medford, Oregon, to 4 r Dlstanco Miles.
