HOWARD Tlio report o tlio city engineer rnvcriiiR the month of .June which was filed Friday liight with the city council gives n splendid idea of tlio amount, of public improvement now under way in the city of Medford. During tho montli estimates wcw pre pared showiug that nearly $100,000 worth of work had been done in tho city. In addition to this specificn lions wero prewired and grade stake , set for much additional work. According to tho report during the month of June the estimates on sewer, water and paving work totajed $07,707.02. Cemeut sidewalks of a total length of 2032 feet were con structed while hubs wero set for 1000 additional i'ceU Grades were estab lished and profiles drown of 2C,S1-J feet of additional service mails and paving. Tom Howard, who was bound over to await examination by the grand Jury, was taken to Jacksonville Fri day afternoon and lodged In tho coun ty Jail as ho could not furnish ball. Howard made a partial ocnfesslon to the officers, but has refused to admit that he actually assisted In tho rob bery. Ho states that "Dlacklo" is tho guilty party. Routine business transacted by the city council Friday evening was as follows: An ordinance was passed declaring tho cost and levying assessments on Jackson street to cover tho cost of paving. Sidewalks were ordered construct ed on the south side of Queen Anne avenue from Roosevelt to Oregon ter race, and on tho north side of Eighth street from Laurel to Mistletoe. A plat of the Stlmson addition to tlio city of Medford was accepted. The fire committee was Instructed to Investigate the need of more firo hose for the fire department and wero given power to act. f Tho bills for tho month were al lowed and warrants ordered drawn to cover the soveral amounts. ReportB from the various city of ficials were received, read and placed on flic. An ordinance was passed restrict ing the location of livery stables in the city of Medford. MRS. J. R. RYAN, MOTHER AND CHILDREN, OFF FOR EAST Mrs. J. R. Ryan, accompanied by her mother. Mr. J. T. Dosett, and her four daughters, Stncia, Mildred, Olive and Gcrnldine, has left for an extended visit in the eatft.
