Sgobel & Day write as follows un der date of New York, December 121 ; Tlie markets in England on box apples arc as follews: ' Liverpool L. Connolly & Co. ca- ble California four-tier Newlowns at 7 d 'Js to 7(1 (is; Oregon Newtown, 7d 0.- to 7d lis: Washington New- towns 7d to 7d Os, with more maud. London M. Isaacs & Sons cable I hul their market is unchanged on Watsonville Newlowns which con tinue to sell from (is (id to (is Sid. The continued low prices in Eng land oil box apples are owing to the excessive arrivals, because the mar kets on barrel apples on moderate arrivals continue, to advance and Hie English markets are doing ex actly what the different markets in the United States are doing, and for which it is really difficult to get a (rue explanation. The offerings at auction here t III week have been as follews: Monday Hood River: Wuldridgc, $1.30; Salome. $1.25; Seek No Fur ther, $1.25;' Vandevcer, $1.25; Bus sets. $1.05; Pourmdiu, $1.20; Klick itat, $1.25; Aiken RcU $1.33. Wednesday Schuslepnl: Bald wins, $1.15: Wagners, $1.30; Home Beauty, $1.50. At private sale on the Erie wharf .Monday, 24 cars; Tuesday, (i, am Wednesday, 2, and the quotations for a good grade of apples are as follews: Rome lleauty, $1.75-$2.00; Gano and Black Ren. $1 .(12 'o -1.75: Spitz cnberg, $1.75-2.25; Newtown Pippin, $J .50-2.00; Black Twig, $1.02 Vfc 1.75; Stayman Winesap, $1.50-1.75: WiiioMiu, $2-2.25. Above figures do not include car of ordinary grades; in fact, w might call them stuff which novel should bo sent to New York, nnc they i.ell all the way from $1.25 t $1.73 per box; $2.25 is the top mar ket Milne for the linest Spitzcuhcrg und Newlowns are more than diffi cult to sell. Very Tew Winesaps have been offered. There are very few curs left ir the Erie yards, and hardly any re ported in transit, but our cold stor age warehouses are full of box ap ples which must bo sold some time. Dozens of reasons are given by dif ferent men for the depression here in box apples and it is generally baitl (here are too many of them, mostly poor keepers, owing probably to the weather earlier in the nerthwest: prices too high in the past, and they must eonie down; useless speculating lo put away owing to the immense tpiantities already stored; barrel ap ples are very fine; barrels are cheap er in propertion: too many low-grade box apples have hurt the business, etc. LANE COUNTY APPLES BRING GOOD PRICES KIGENF, Or., Dec. 27.-Tho sec retary of the Eugene Fruitgrowers.' association lias made his report on (he (iiautily of apples shipped from Eugene this fall. He report Jliui 51 carloads were sent east, bringing in a ieenuo of about $25,000. The price received for the fruit was from $1.25 to $2.25 a box, which is to much as was received in any fruit district in the state, with tho excep tion of Hood River and Rogue River, which communities have spent thoiie uiids of dollars advertising and milk ing a reputation. While the price ol the apples did not come up to the ex pectations of some of tho local growers, the results have been highly satisfactory as a whole. The apple acreage is constantly in creasing in the vicinity of Eugene, ln.uiv landowners mid farmers this, year setting out thousands' of trees each. CALLIPOLIS, O.. Dec. 27.
