Burgess, of Ante lope 19,479.83 acres of grazing land the purchase price being 1116,878. L. K. Kerbaugh, formerly business manager of the Pendleton Tribune, is the latest worthless check offender at Pendleton. He issued checks on the Oregon Savings bank of Portland. Kerbaugh took a train for Denver aud the checks came back from Portland marked, "Payment stopped. " Y Adams' city election will be held I Monday, Deo. 11, and the following are the candidates placed in nomina tion: T. A. Lienallen, mayor; O. L. Baker, recorder; Dr. E. A. Blair & Wood, Weston real estate agents have brought suit in Justice Chamberlain's court to recover foO from Jesse Hart. This sum is alleged to be due for commission on the sale of 120 acres of mountain land. Peterson & Peterson are attorneys for plaintiffs. The alterations and improvements at the Baptist church are now com plete, with the exception of placing the new pews. The church is nicely painted and papered, a new carpet adorns tbn floor, and the building is furnace heated. Yesterday another much needed improvement was made when a new sidewalk was placed on the south side of the church property. With this object iu view, the boy scattered some grain in a circle and took a "stand" in range. Twelve pigeons alighted to feed on the grain and at the crack of the gun eleven birds fell over dead. At the Christian church Sunday morning the subject of discourse will be "What Christianity Has Done for Woman, aud What Womau Has Done for Christianity." Following is the report of School District No. 45 for the month begin ning November 6, and ending De cember 4: Whole number of days taught, 18 ; number of pupils enrolled, 20. Monday night the city council met in regular monthly session. Four members were present, Counoilmen Kirk and Jarman being abseut. This is the final settlement in the con struction affairs of the new water works system, the transfer of the property to the city being made today. The matter of renewing the contrac with the Preston-Parton Milling Co. for lighting the city was by resolution referred to the Fire and Water Com mittee. . The recorder was instructed to request the company to install an arc light at the intersection of Third and Main streets. The company's bill for the month of November was referred to the Finance Committee. The council voted a levy of six mills city tax, and the usual grist of mouthly bills was allowed. For Sale.
