Mias panner came up from Pendle ton Sunday and spent the day with ; her parents in this city. Feebler & Chamberlain, the imple ment dealers, have a large stock of the famous Superior drills. Chimney sweeps have been plying their vocation iu Athena, and ap parently find plenty of work. W. L. Zeiger, one of the proprietors of the Pendleton foundry and machine shop, was in town yesterday. . ' Mark Moorhouse, a native son of Pendleton, has filed his petition as a candidate for the office of city treas urer. Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Peebler en tertained a number of friends Tuesday evening. The evening was 6pent at cards, and refreshments were served. Sherman and Charles Gay will return today from Keunewick, Wash., whero thev have been since Wednesday looking into the prospects of that thriving little town. J. V7., Jenkins' stereoscope will hereafter be operated with an elec trio current. Sunday night he will give the first of a series of illustrated lectures on the life of Christ. Frank Coolidgo, a jeweler who worked in Athena last fall, has re turned from Iowa, and is now located in Pendleton. He was in town Sun day, a guest at the Dauner home. i,Charles Garrett returned Wednesday evening from the Palouso country, where he went sometime ago with a threshing machine crew. He had quite a long run in the harvest fields. ' J John Banister has sold to the Pres , ton-Parton Milliner Co. of this citv 13,500 bushels of wheat at 65 cents per bushel. Mr. Banister yet has 17,000 bushels which he 13 holding for a higher price. AH member of the Young People's Chrisitan Endeavor are requested to be present at a business meeting of the society at 7:80 in the Sunday school room of the Christian church. ' Ralph Haines, who for some months has been telegraph operator at the O. R. & N. station iu this city, will leave for his home in Conden, N. J. Mr. Merrill, late of Bunker, Idaho, has been assigued to take Mr. Haines place here. ' Hallowe'eu was duly observed in 4 Athena. The youngsters put in the evening industriously changing gates and scattering vehicles and other things movable over town. The school heuse.yard seemed to be the selected spot whereon to dump the accumu lations of the night's roandup, and the following morning it presented the appearance of having been remem bered. Tom Richardson, manager of the Portland Commercial Club, writes the Press as follows: Portland, Ore., Nov. 1, 1905. Editor Athena Press: At a meet ing of Portland business men last Saturday, informal resolutions were passed thanking the people of Athena for their very cordial reception dur ing the Portland business men's excur sion. The very enthusiasm of the meeting here prevented the drawing up of a formal resolution, but iu formality is always pleasant among friends anyway. The boycott instituted against peni tentiary brick by Walla Walla con tractors last spring is proving a seri ous menace to the revenues of the prison and the state board of control is facing a dilemma that gives evi dence of developing into a knotty problem before it is solved, says the Walla Walla Statesman At present there is piled up in the penitentiary brick yard 2,000,000,000 brick ready for building purposes and worth to the state $13,000. Curtis has sold out his farm ing interests in Crook county and with his wife arrived in Athena Wednesday evoning. Mr. Curtis has purchased a wheat ranch in the Palouse country, and will prooeed there in a few days. A Locomotive Engineer- y Grover Hays, who left Athena three 0-ears ago and entered the employment of the Northern Pacific, is now a loco motive engineer having a run out of Pasco. For Sale. A.
