Jones is today unloading 100 tons of North Powder ice Mr; Jones has had some difficulty in securing his stock of congealed aqua puri, but the recent cold snap froze the ice ponds to a considerable depth, and the supply is now plentiful. v , . N. M. McDonald, who is employed on the Barrett farm on Pine creek, recently met with a rather unpleasant experience. While driving down the grade leading to Pine creek, his wagon, loaded heavily with lumber, slipped off the grade and was badly damaged. Negotiations are on for the sale of the 1 two Reeder farms near town. Charles Brotherton is contemplating the pur chase of the old homestead of Mrs. JE. K. Reeder, at a cost of $135 008, and Mr. McKenzie, of Seattle, will probably become owner of the farm of W. H. Reeder, near town; price $18,000. Sermon subjects: "The Law of Progressive Development in Christian Character." Evening, "A Two-fold Need; Man's Need of Christ and Christ's Need of Man." , , " Yesterday was the 68th birthday of S. C. Stanton, and all his children, with the exception of two, gathered at the parental home to observe the day and congratulate their father on his contin ued improvement. A bounteous dinner was prepared by Mrs. Stanton, and the Pbess was not forgotten, receiving a generous slice of the birthday cake. The members of the family who were unable to be present were, Mrs. Mon tague of Arlington, and Will Stanton of Prineville. James Henderson, clerk in the Athena Mercantile Company's grocery depart ment met with what might have termi nated in a serious accident. Tuesday evening Mr. Henderson had occasion to make an investigation cf the big acety lene gas tank, located in the cellar of the storage warehouse at the rear of the store. The flame of a lighted candle came in contact with lurking gas and instantly an explosion resulted.
