Mrs. Will McCollum visited with Mrs. E. R. Cox at Walla Walla Sunday. Mrs. Cox is improving in health. W. fl. Reeder left yesterday for Ta- coma, where he will look for a location. He was accompanied by his daughter. Miss Bertha Baker has been employed to teach a five months term of school near Pilot Rock and about 20 miles from Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. King and family are visiting at lone, Morrow county, where they formerly resided. They will remain about two weeks. Mrs. Charley Smith and children re turned Monday evening from a three days' visit with her daughter, Mrs. Marion Jack, near Havana station. Bamett went to Milton Tuesday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Kemp. Mrs. J. N. B. Gerking and daughter, Miss Fay, leave today for a, visit with friends in the Valley. Marion Jack has finished harvesting his 900 acre crop of wheat and has put his machine in the shed. Mrs. Lizzie Jones wishes to annouce to her many patrons that her stock of fall hats are arriving daily. Misses Eva Bider and Laura Brown visited Wednesday at the home of Mrs L. Hodgen south of town. Mrs. Cartwright and daughter of Mil ton, have rented one of the Brown cot tages in the south part of ' town and took possession this week. Miss Cart- wright is one of the present corps of teachers iu our public school. Mrs. J.-R. Owens will receive her first order of fall and winter hats early next week and her opening will occur about the middle of the month. Mrs. Owens will have some bargains in milli nery that cannot be met elsewhere. J Maurice Hill returned Tuesday from V summer's visit with his brother at Elgin.
