Troutman, Pendleton, Oregon. Architect. My Position. To the Editor: In view of the fact that considerable discussion and adverse criticism has arisen because of the attitude I have maintained in endeavoring to carry out the quarantine as prescribed in accordance with the health ordinance of the city of Athena, I take this method of vindicat ing myself, and wish to say to the pub lic that wherever I may have to attend contagious diseases the cases will have to submit to rigid quarantine as laid down by the ordinances of the city and the health laws of the state. In this way, and in no other, is it possible to stamp out contagious diseases, and it is for the good of the public that these regulations be maintained, strictly, and it behooves the people to assist in their enforcement. These conditions," of necessity, become irksomo on those who are so unfortunate as to have to submit to them; but without their strict observ ance the ordinance becomes a dead let ter. Those who have to submit to them naturally consider that an injustice is being doce - them if they are discrim inated against, and the burden of the matter falls upon the attondant who endeavors to do his duty.
