This has been his cus tom for several years and the little folks always have a good time. Hon. A. W. Cowan and wife arrived home Wednesday from Portland. Mrs. (iowan has been away from home for some time but Mr. Cowan had only been away from home for a month or so. They visited in various places, the Captain spending some time in Portland and Salem. He doesn't think the legislature is going to accomplish much as there has been so many bills in troduced that in the windup many of them will be lost sight of entirely and perhaps some that should pass. Mrs. Cowan's health is considerably improved and both are glad to be back home. They came in by way of Bend. The doctor had been called away and no onaVvMS there to make an examination that would throw any light on their death. The marshal added that one of the Indians was in bad shape from tuberculosis and like ly there would be nothing found to indicate poisoning. The In dians were Hill 1'addy and Har rison Villiar. The former was a bad one who got drunk just as often as he could get liquor. J. J. I loiiegan. Win. Hanley and wife and Miss Martha Hanley left this morning for Portland and Salem. The former goes to attend a meeting of the state tax commission and also to look in on the legislature. Mr. Hanley is on business, They will be absent an indefinite time. The Canyon Eagle reports P. M. Cheney in that town Wednes day enroute to Harney county. Mr. Cheney left here last spring with the intention of locating in California but later went to North Yakaima. The Kagle re ports him saying that he is con vinced that Harney county is good enough for him. We are overstocked with brood sows. We have thoroughbred Durock-Ueds, thoroughbred Poland-China, thoroughbred Berk; shire and mixed breeds of each kind. These are as well bred hogs as there are in Harney County and will sell reasonable if sold before we commence to fatten th m. Bennett Bros., IStf Burns Ore. It has been rumored for sever al days that there are railroad surveyors south of the lakes. The Times-Herald has not been able to get any definite informa tion respecting this work but several have stated that they have seen the men there. The suggestion recently made that the line would be changed thru the Valley may have something to do with this work. A telegram from Payette, Ida., yesterday announced that W. E. Alberson was very low at that point and his death was expected at any hour. He is a pioneer of this county and' served as asses sor for many years. The new town of Alberson in this county is named in his honor. Mr. Alber son has a large family in this county and his friends are many. His health has been bad for many years. school. James F. The trouble seems to have been the inability to hold the arc light at a steady force.
