To Theater Owners, Managers and Whom it May Concern : Thia is te certify that 1 have equipped the Windsor .theater in this city with tho Lind gren stationary chemical fire enijines. After examining all other systems of fire protection, and After repeated tests of the Lindgren sta tionary chemical firo engine, and upon the re commendation of tho insurance under-writ-era, I havo no hesitation in pronouncing it the cheapest and most powerful, as woll as perfect, hre protection for theaters ever in vented. In my opinion every theater ard opera houso in tho United States, as well as Europe, should be equipped with theso chem ical firo engines, and thus save tho los? of life and thousands ot dollars in property. Respectfully. (Signed) H.I.GOLDY. Owner Windsor Theater, Chicago, Ills. See What a Practical Fireman Says. Tacoma, Wash., Sept. 19, 18S9. To Whom it May Concern ; This is to certify thatl, George A. Burbank, witnessed the exhibition of the Lindgren chemical engine test to-day, and as I have witnessed a groat many such chemical tests in New York City, Boston, Mass., andothor largo cities in the East, I hereby state that it was the quickest and most satisfactory test, and was also pronounced so by two of our councilmen and all the citizens present, and I will also state that the time of applying tho chemical was left entirely to mo and I did not give the word until tho fire was well startod, for in other testa I have witnessed they have always put the chemical on tho minuto the fire was started and water would answer just as well, as there was nothing but the fiamo started and tho wood not charred, and I take great pleasure in recommending tho "Lind gren" as far superior to any other '"Chemical" engine on tho market. (Signed) GEORGE A. BURBANK. Secretary Paid Fire Department. Director of the Northwestern Fire Associa tion. Was last yoar Secretary of tho Northwest ern Fireman's Association. The above engines are made in one, three and five-gallon sizes for hand use; sixty-gallon single tank on two wheels, two eighty-gallon tanks on four wheels, sixty, ope hundred, three hundred and five hundred-gallon stationary; other sizes made to order. Salmon fishing is prosecuted in tho Columbia nnd its tributaries all tho year round. The season for taking ChinooTc salmonis fixed by Jaw from the first of April to the 1st of August. After this the silverside fishing begins. This year there has been a great many of these fish caught, especially in the Cowlitz -river, from which many tonshave been shipped here. Tho run of silveraides ia now about over, and they are followedby the steelheads, which are now in the river. A fisherman was met by a reporter yes terday in a net and twine dealer's, mak ing a purchase of nets for the steelhead fishing. In answer to inquiries, he said the steelhead fishing would last till Maich, when it would be at its best, but, unfor tunately, March was a close month. He hns been examining the Clsckamas for a place to establish a fishery, bntrsays it is a hard stream to fish in, swift and shal lowand where. there are long, deep pools they are taken up. Tho steelheads are caught principally in the Willamette below the falls and in the Clackamas. They used to be plentiful in tho Cowlitz, but not many pre caught there now. The steelhead is a better fish than the silyersides, and is a favorite in. the New York market, being a firm fish and stand ing shipping well. They used to sell here five years ago for $2.50 per dozen, but bring atnuch better price now. "When asked if there was any danger of this species becoming exterminated, the fisherman said they were becoming scarce, and he thought something should be done to preserve them, as they were 'n valuable fish, especially as they come at a season when there are no other salmon There is not likely to be a great many engaged in tho steelhead fishery this year, a3 nearly all the hshermen on the river are engaged in catching sturgeon for the eastern market. There are not less than 400 men between Cnpe Horn and Cathlamet fishing for sturoeon; some of them are fishing in the usual wav .with barbed hook and bait, but others are . using what is called tho -Chis nese hook, which has no barb and re quires no bait, which is quite a saving, as eels for bait cost 5 cents per pound, and a large quantity is used. The Chi neese hooks havo a square bend, and are made as slwrp as needle1!. They are strung along close together in lines which are kept a short distance from the bottom by floats. The fish come swimming along near the bottom and run against these hooks and when caught on one, in their struggles get sometimes several more stuck in them. The sturgeon and steel heads are both in good demand for shipping east, and the fishermen are likely to make more money in tho winter than they do during Ihe summer. Oregoman, 15. Take It in Time.
