Fisherman Taffe and Gov- Pennoyer. I. H. Taffe, the Celilo fisherman, does some queer things. Not long ago, when governor Pennoyer got after him with a sharp stick for fish inc during the close season, he sent him a telegram, telling him to make all j the trouble for the .state while m of fice, ''which will not be long, you bet." His last break is the appended notice, which appeared in the advertising columns of the Oregenian: TIIE CELILO FISHERY FOR RENT 1 OH ONE XEAr. I -will rent on favorable terms to re sponsible parties the Celilo fishery for ono ear, or until the expiration of Pen noyer's term in office. The present gov ernor has been hounding me since his election, which, I believe, was his chief motive in seeking the office. I will give him a rest, since he won't me. I. H. Taffe. Governor Pennoyer saw the notice as soon a3 the Oregonian reached the executive department at Salem yesterday. When he read it he laughed heartily and said: "I did not give Mr. Taffe trouble when he fished in season, but when he caught salmon in defiance of law. I felt it my duty to go after him." President Keed, of the fish -commission, .has returned from Celilo, where he investigated the govern or's charge that Taffe was shipping salmon. "Upon my arrival at Celilo I found a box of fish at Taffe'a fishery ready for shipment, but I did not arrest Mr. Taffe, and will not unless there exists a law prohibiting the shipping of salmon in close season, or the catching of salmon in Washington territory in September. So far as I could discover, Mr. Taffe is not fish ing on tho Oregon side, as there is not enough water to do so. He is buying salmon from Indians, who catch them in Washington territory, and take them to Oregon. These Iudiaus use lines, nets and speara, and catch from 100 to 1000 pounds a day.1' Oregonian, Id. Headaches, biliousness, and liver troubles are promptly cured by the use of Ayer's Cathartic Pills. Equally safe for young or old. One day three boys enme home with a big white rabbit whioh some neighbor had given them, and their father, fearing damage to uis books if tho animal was let loose in the house, told them to dig a burrow in the bade yard and put their pet in it. They, did so. Next morning they came racing to their father's room. "Papa! papa! Come out in the yard. We've found out how rabbits grow!" "What on earth do you mean, chil dren?" "Why yon know we planted bunny last night. Well, there's a whole lot of little, rabbits there now ten of 'em, all in one hill!" There Areiio Happj Da)s.
