Among the things which may trtSt be done tc enhance personal beauty is the daily use of Ayer's Hail Vigor. Should the hair be thin, harsh, CT dry, 01 turning gray, Ayer's Hair Vigor w ill restore the color, bring out a new crowth, and Oj render the old soft and shiny. For keeping the scalp clean, cool, and healthy, then i no better preparation in the marker. "I am free to confess that a trial of Ayer's Hair Vigor has eouiuced me that it is a genuine article. Its use has not only caused the hair of my wife and daughter to be Abundant and Glossy, but it has given my rather stunted mus tache a respectable length and appear ance." It. Britton, Oakland, Ohio. "My hair wa3 coming out (without any assistance from my wife, either). E tried Ayer's Hair Vigor, using only one bottle", and I now hae as line a head of hair as any one could wish for." It. T. Schmittou, Dickson, Tenn. " I have used Ayer's Hair Vigor in ray family for a number of years, and re gard it as the best hair preparation I know of. It keeps the scalp clean, the hair soft and lively, and preserves the original color. My wife has used it for a long time with most satisfactory re sults." Benjamin M. Johnson, M. D., Thomas Hill, Mo. " My hair was becoming harsh and dry, but after using half a bottle of Ayer's Hair Vigor it grew black and glossy. I cannot express the joy and gratitude I feel." Mabel C. THE TAOOMA TOUKNAtaT- Delayed Dispatches of Tuesday's Doings Special to The Astobiak, Tacoma, "W". T., September 17. There was a big parade this morn ing and a fine turn out. It was very warm and dusty. The contests were to begin at 130 p. m. The Astoria boys found out at once that chief Eainey considered it was bis tourna ment and demanded that the rules be set aside. The teams to start at a drop signal instead of by flash of a pistol. Barry protested and at last after an hour and a half of wordy war the Astoria team gave way as usual for courtesy's sake, though backed up by law. The Corvallis team ran first. The pressure at the hydrant when the water started was 55 pounds and at the close 40; time 41 seconds. Rescue's of Astoria ran next. As they started, Bethune and (Jibson, the two professionals called, "No start, come back!" This checked Rescue's for a seeond, but they went ahead in great time and parsed the hydrant fine and made a good connection without a break of any kind. Just as Warren had the nozzle screwed on and before water came, Dacey of Victoria, one of the judges, jumped iu and instead of grasping the nozzle and dropping it to the ground a$ he had a right to do, he grabbed it un derneath and started to twist, thus, of course, unscrewing the nozzle which was plainly the game. "Hold on," shouted Barry grasping Dacey's wrist. itist then water came: time J4 1-1U: beating best time on record by 1-10 seconds. (Thus the Astoria teUm broke the world's best record iu the v et test which was made atJDenver last Aug ust when Aspen Hose, No. 1, took first prize in 34 1-5. Rescues beating this record by 1-10 or a second.) Then came an nproar. Raiuey came out in full bloom. He evi dently believed it was his tournament, and said, ''To h 1 with the rules!" The money was in his pocket and lie wouldn't allow it to be given to the Astoria team. Pimm, another of the judges making -three of five, picked up the nozzle and found it all right; three full turns. The time keepers gave the official time to the secretary. There the matter is for the present. Astorians and others feel sorry over the manifest desire to jockey Astoria out of what was fairly won. Probably the matter will go before the directors. Astoria won and should have the race, and the thousand dol lars c , ,vr.- Our Boys, of Walla "Walla, third team made it in 38 seconds. Then the East Portland team, led by Dave Campbell, a pugilist. Walla Walla made a good run, but broke down at the hvdrant; time 392-5. Vancouver, B. C, came next; 36 2-5. Seattle, the kicking team, ran next; no time. Hadn't three turns on, but would have made it in 36. New Westminister, B. C, next fared exactly like Seattle. Then Victoria, B. C. team made it in 38 3-5. The three Tacoma teams and the Nani mo, B. C. team will continue the same contest to-morrow. There isn't $200 up on any contest. Astorians stood around yesterday and to-day with several thousand dollars in their pockets, but could not get a bet. No odds would induce any one to come up. ne Astoria team is in fine shape. They have got a little mad over the bunco game attempted this morning, and will go in to win to-morrow and next day.
