Avoid all harsh and drastic purgatives, the tendency of which is to -weaken the bowels. The best remedy Is Ayer's Pills. Being purely vegetable, their action is prompt and their effect always beneficial. They are an admirable Liver and After-dinner pill, andevery where endorsed hy the profession. "Ayer's Pills are highly and univer sally spoken of by the people ahout here. I make daily use of them in my practice. 'Dr. I. E. Fowler, Bridge port, Conn. "I can recommend Ayer's Pills above all others, having long proved their value as a cathartic for myself ana family." J. T. Hess, Leithsville, Pa. "For several years Ayer's Pills have been used in my family. Wo find them an Effective Remedy for constipation and indigestion, and. are never without them in the house." Moses Grenier, Lowell, Mass. "I have used Ayer's Pills, for liver troubles and indigestion, during many vears. and have always found them rompt and efficient in their action." .. N. Smith, Utica, N. Y. " I suffered from constipation which assumed such an obstinate form that I feared it would cause a stoppage of the bowels. Two boxes of Ayer's Pills ef fected a complete cure." D. Burke, Saco, Me. ".I have used Ayer's Pills for the past thirty years and consider them an in valuable family medicine. I know of no better remedy for liver troubles, and have always found them a prompt cure for dyspepsia." James Quinn, 90 Middle St., Hartford, Conn. "Having been troubled with costive ness, which seems inevitable with per sons of sedentary habits, I have tried Ayer's Pills, hoping for relief. I am glad to 'say that they have served me better than any other medicine. I arrive at this conclusion only after a faithful trial of their merits." Samuel T. Jones, Oak St., Boston, Mass. Tiiii'o DSIIo s b i MB am o THE PISH COMMISSIONER j Proposes to Again Ee3took the Colum bia Kiver. San Francisco, July 26. United States fish commissioner McDonald and assistant commissioner O'Connor arrived to-day from the ea3t on a tour of the various coast fisheries. It is the first time the commissioner has ever been west of Denver. The commissioner says he proposes to restock the Columbia river again, and the Sacramento river, California, with salmon, so that in five years the catch will be as great as formerly. The commissioner and assistant leave for the Baird station Tuesday next. They will there make some improvements, for which congress has appropriated 4,000, and will then proceed to Oregon and Wash ington. Commissioner McDouald, in an in terview this evening, says: ,lIt is my firm belief that the supply of salmon can be increased again, so that in five years there will be just as many and the catch will be just as great .as formerly. The conditions must, however, be as favorable as they once were. What we want now is complete co-operation of the states throuch their fish commissions, na far as possible, to keep the rivers pure and stock them with more fry. That is all that is necessary. Once it was thought that the salmon sup nlv of the Columbia and Sacramento would never give out. Now, Pacific coaat people are gett;ug avast minimi pack from Alaska, and are saying the same thing of fish there. Probably thev are nearly right about that, but at any rate we want to stock up, not only these two great rivers, but the Clackamas, Sau tiam, Pitt and other rivers. The dis tinct work now is to extend the arti ficial production of salmon. We have one station now on the McCloud riv er and anotber on the Clackamas that together last year produced about 11,000,000 salmon eggs. The idea now is to enlarge these hatcheries so as to get a greater supply. Salmon is to you what shad is to the east. The shad supply there rau low in 1880, and the commission began stocking streams with eggs. In 1858 the catch was increased over that or tlio year 1880 by S750.000 wort of shad. This shows what can be done. One thing I would like to, emphasize, the value and permanence of the results of fish culture will depend essentially on the regulation and protection of the fish eries byj state law?. If the fish are not permitted to return to their spawning grbnnds. or if the condi tions are unfavorable for spawning, tho work will be retarded." A CHILI) KILLED. Why mother give their children such deadly poison is surprising when they ean releave the child ot its peculiar troubles by using Acker's IJaby soother. It contains no Opium or Morphine. Sold by.T. The Pacific Mail steamer City of JSew York will shortly be put in the dry dock at San Francisco, and re paired at a cost of 120,000. If you are too crowded spill a little ammonia on your clothes that is if you can stand it. When your liver is out of order your whole system is deranged. Your hlood is impure, breath offensive, you have headache, feel languid, dispirited and nervous.
