Wmmm- JAtjr&zrmmtwmi.'ZMF" IIP Pishing at the Cascades- The amount of fish caught at the Cascades this year has been very small, as compared with other years, on account of the low stage of the water. The Uregonian says there has been considerable quarreling and ill feeling between the proprietors of wheels and gill nets. A. number of persons have been fishing with nets and setting them below the wheels. Tho land along both sides of the rapids, except the government re serve at the locks, is owned by tho O. E. & N. Co., and the wheel men have leased the right to fish. The gill net men are looked upon as tresspassers, and cannot use the shore, so they anchor their nets a short distance from the land. Mr. Williams, who has a wheel, took by force and carried away sev eral nets which were set below his wheel in a slough or side channel. He was arrested and bound over at The Dalles to appear at the fall term of court. There is a dispute as to whether the slough is a part of the river or not, one side claiming that it is, and was not included in the sur vey, but merely meandered, while the other side claims that it is included in the company's property. Two men who said they were dep uty sheriffs, but did not show their authority, took some nets and a boat belonging to a fisherman, aud were going off with them, when tho owner leveled a rifle aud made them bring his property back. Ho said they did not turn any too soon, for he was within one beat of his heart of pull ing the trigger. The fish caught at the Cascades this season are hardly worth quarrel ing about. Ayer's Ague Cure is warranted to cure all malarial disorders, when taken according to directions. Sold by all dealers in medicine. An experimental train on a rail road in Pennsylvania made a run of ninety odd miles in about sixty min utes, some of the distance being run at the rate of nearly two miles per minute.
