Thomas Hendeson, an old fisherman of Ston- iDgton, Conn., who is in this cily, says as regards beds ol shrimps and codfish on tho Oregon acd 'Washing ton ceasts: "I am not of a particularly avari cious dispositien: nevertheless I am going np to sound those shrimp beds, and if I find them as extensive as re ported in the few lines devoted to the cruise of the Albatross on her return a few weeks ago. I shall go into the shrimp business. The 'Albatross, if vou remember, reported the virtual Undine of these beds. Her officers set forth that the beds are not only numerous, but that they were very extensive. They said that near (Joos bay, Yaquina bay, Shoalwater bay and on up toward the Straits of Faca there were beds where shrimps exist ed in such quantities as had never before- been known. I have looked into this business considerably. There is money in shrimps, if you can get them in such great beds, and I represent men who can come to the front with all the means necessary to make it a success." A Communication. Editob of the Astebian: There having been some little con troversy between Mr. Ole Settem and myself through the Pioneer. I wish through your columns to state that in my reply to the first statement of Mr. Ole Settem, I gave the true state ment -of the case, and I will here again say I have no time asked for subscription for my church without having presented my subscription paper, and anyone can havo the privi lege of examining the list as to who have put 'their names upon it, as thev are all there in the band writing of tho contributors, under the heading before published. We are grateful for all aid rendered, and the church building is tho evidence we have to give as to the use to whioh we put the money collected. Not wishing to prolong the discussion in this public way longer, I most re spectfully refer all who want to know what and where the true facts are to Mr. Christainson, as he is better able to state them than any third person to the transaction in question. From present indications, the hatch ery will turn out 4,500,000 fish this season. This will make 6,000,000 fish in two years, a very creditable show ing. The season ill close shortly after the end of the year. The com missioners are trying to make ar rangements for distributing some of the fish into other waters besides the uiacKamas.
