The Briton is invading this coun try at a 'rate which, within the memory of some now living, would have caused great political appre hension. For some time after the formation of ouit.government there was a considerable minority of our citizens who declared that thay had fought England but not the English form of government. It would have been dangerous to add by immigration to this formidable party, but that danger is long past. The growth of our own native pop ulation has belittled all possible immigration, and republican ideas have been slowly advancing in Great Eritain itself. We can lis ten to-day to the words "God save the queen" unmoved by the emo tions that shook our immediate forefathers, feeling that the poli tics which it confounds and the "knavish tricks" which it execrates are none of ours. The Briton comes to us, therefore, in increas ing numbers, and we heed him not at all. A. correspondent of the Chi cago Times has drawn attention to some figures whioh have special interest in this connection. He says that in 1880 there w ere nearly 215,000 more Irish than British and Canadians in the United States. A deduction of 10 per cent, for losses by death and otherwise would leave an Irish majority of 200,000. From the 1st of January, 1881, 393,000 Irish have come to this country, while 886,000 Britons and Canadians have been added to o lr popula tion. Making proper allowance for death and other losses the Ttmes's correspondent asserts that a British-Canadian majority of 240,000 is shown. Tho immi gration from Great Britain is much more largely male than that from Ireland, and we have author ity for the statement that it is the middle-class English who migrate. Of course, thdse figures will bear looking into, and other calculators may draw other Reductions from them. But the fact remains that the Briton is becoming a more potent element in our social com position than is generally thought. Under the allotment law of con gress, which the secretary of the interior is carrying into operation, the Indians now on reservations, with the exception of five trib will be made farmers and citizens of the United States. Each In dian will have a farm of his own, which he cannot sell, but which ho will be obliged to cultivate in order to earn a living. A Multitude of Ailments. The ailments which afflict the kldnevs and bladder are so numerous, that merely to name them would filll a space far outrun ning the limits of this article. Suffice It to say, that they are both obstinate and danger ous. To their prevention Hostetter's Stomach Bitters Is well adapted. The stimulus which it lends to the action of the kldnejs when they are lethargic, serve to counteract a tendency in them to lapse, first, into a state of pernicious' inactivity, aud afterwards into one of positive organic disease, which soon destroys their delicate Integuments, poslons the bloua and causes death. A double purpose ls served by this depurent. It promotes activity of the Lid nes. aud expels impurities from, the blood which hao no notural channel of ouUet, except those organs. Constipation, bilious ness, fe er and ague, rheumatism and ds pepsla, are also remedied by this medicine of thorough acuon and wldo scope. In selecting beef take that which is clear red and the fat straw color. Tastes differ as to the choicest cuts, though the sixthseventh and eighth ribs ribs are usually preferred for roasts. For steak the' sirloin- is the best, porter-house the most economical and nearly as good as sirloin. There is a .mining region 100 miles above Lewiston, Idaho, on Snake nver, and a report comes from there as late as Thursday of last week which says that an entire Chinese camp has been murdered, says the Sun. There are few white men in the region, and it is supposed that Indians did the bloody work. The impression also prevails that Chinamen themselves did it. Al mota or Unionlown is the nearest point of communication, but the high waters have interrupted travel.
