CoL George Woodford began a sc ries of temperance meetings hero on the 7th insfc, whioh hare continued every night since, and have resulted in a great temperance revival. He has spoken nightly to packed audi ences, and some four or five hundred have signed the total abstinence pledge, among them many of the prominent citizens of Astoria. Mod erate drinkers, and some who are not sp moderate in drinking, have aban doned the inebriating cup and pledged hostility to the liquor traffic in the following werds: "I will, God help ing me, abstain from all alcoholic bev erages, and discourage their use, manufacture and sale." The most Banguine friends and promoters of the temperance cause are surprised at results so far exceed ing their expectations, Col Wood ford's rfietoric and logic are tolling and conclusive, while his addresses abound in wit, humor and pathos. The results attained in this stronghold of the rum power are the best commendations of this elo quent advocate of temperance; near ly five hundred enrolled for sobriety and tho cause of temperance, the W. C. T. U. greatly strengthened; a Y. W. C. T. U. organized; also a strong temperance league known as the As toria Rescue Club, composed of all who took the pledge, and a band of hope. I took him to the hospital and to the best physi cians In Peabody without success. About this time, some frleuds, who had been cured bv the Cuticuka Remedies, prevailed up on me to trv them. I began to uso them on the 15th of January last. In seven months every paitlcle of tne disease. was removed. Not a spot or a scab remains on his scalp to tell the storv of his suffering.
