For five days the pumps were kept continually working. On Friday they be came disabled, and tho engine could not work them. Thou the men manned the broken pump. JBetweeu waves the men would rush forward pump her a few minutes, and then recede and await another op portunity." "On Saturday, May 7, tho gale was still furiously blowing. The men lashed themselves to the pump3, and were working for dear life. Sound ing the water in the hold, it was as certained that sho had seven feet. It way then apparent that it would be an utter impossibility to keep her above water." "At 4 o'clock Sunday morning a sail wa3 sighted, five miles to westward, which bore down and offered assist ance. She proved to bo the sealing schooner Angel Dollie. Taking ad vantage of the invitation I lowered a boat, which was immediately smashed. Tho schooner then sent a boat to us, and within a couple of; hours had taken all off the ship. Wo at the timo were fifty miles from Cane Blfinco." "On Friday we perceived a full rigged ship about twenty, miles to westward, going south. Through glasses Bhe appeared to be making good headway. The schooner took us, twenty-six all told, as far as Cape Flattery, when we fell in with the United States steam lauuch Cosmos, l)'ongiug to tiie C P.
