The attendance at the delivery of the messages was very large and unusual inter est was manifested. Comment on Gov. Pennoyer's message assumes a wide latitude. Some prominent Democrats consider it radical. Special criticism on his reference to the state supreme court and the federal court decisions, are heard on every hand both pro and con by the legal fraternity. But a recapitulation of sentiment may be summed up as -decidedly favor able to the general recommenda tions of the message for slate leg islation. An amusing incident occurred in ioint convention. After the vote on the governorship had been counted, Speaker Grogg an nounced T. R. Cornelius, as hav ing received a majority of the votes cast, 'and said: "I hereby declare," when the Democrats shouted, "No; stop there!" The Republicans joined heartily in tho laughter and stamping of feet. The speaker corrected it by an nouncing, "Pennoyer received a majority," etc., causing relief to the Democrats and amusing the Republicans. Watts says prompt legislation on the liquor question may be ex pected. The license law at $400 seems quite popular, and will un doubtedly pass before the session is half through. The bill submitting an amend ment to the constitution for a general election to effect prohibi tion of the sale and manufacture of liquors, finds little opposition. The special election on the liquor amendment is not so popular. Important legislation on the immigration board is expected. A strong effort will be made to dis continue the board, and radical ohanges will certainly be made. Elixir is -warranted, is because it is the best Blood Preparation known.
