The Heppner Gazette Established March SO, 189.1. ISSUED THURSDAY MORNINQ. l'x'od Warnool ataUired at the Ptwtottlcp Ht Heppner Oregon, as ecoud-clAiMi matter. TflDRSDAY May 10, 1007. Ererythiog looks ptHiially the weather. good es- FTeppner's Fourth of July cele fcritiou will be a big one. Heppner people uow butter their leai with a Morrow county pr.nlnct, and there is do better bnt- ter on earth thau is made at Lex ington. The visit of Portland business men to Heppner will result in poxi. Such visits cannot help but brine interests in closer touch with r hatter nnderstandins! of condi tions. Portland people were not backward in making Heppner feel that they were re.idv to help us in any. proposition that oorue up where it is possible, and the influ ence of a great city is certainly something that can be of great value. It would Peem that Morrow county farmers have a just griev ance in petitioning the Oiegon Hailroad Commission for a reduc tion in freight rates on wheat be tneeu Heppner and way points in ths county and. Portland. The farmers and everybody else as far BS ihat is 'Concerned cannot see whv it would cost the O. R. & N. company two and three quarter rents more per hundred weight to , haul wheat from Heppner to Port land a distance of 193 miles " than it does from Pendleton, a distance of 231 miles. ' Motow county'9 -wheat crop will be at least 1,000,000 bushels and this excessive rate makes a difference worth looking after. flIUH PKICES FOR WHEAT. , ool Wfa declared to bo a fleeted by he gloomy report from Uussia, md it was the belief of maty iromiuent commission men that Europe will bo forced to buy leavily iu the American market, uid that the American market, iu tead of being able to meet thin demand, will be scarcely Btrong enough to bupply such wheat as is needed for her own consumption Morrow county's prospects were never better for wheat. A dollar bushel will mean $1,000,000 for Morrow county farmeis. Cures Woman's Weaknesses. V'n refer to that boon to weak, nervous, rufTering women known as Dr. Plerce'a I'll von to Prescription. Monday morning was the most Bensa'ional opening in the history of the Chicago board of Trade. Gloomy crop prospects from almost every wheat producing, country was the cause of the high offerings. There was a tremendous ruBh to buy wheat . and the price soared above the dollar mark. Even a dollar and a half a bushel was talked of. The net advance Monday for wheat was 4 centa for Julv and September options and 4Jc for the December option. From the low point of Monday a week ago, July wheat has advanced 14c, Septem ber has gone np 15c, and Decern ber optiOD, the higher point of the day, was 160 above the low price of a week ago. While each a spasmodic jump oan be attributed in a measure to temporary excitement, still the conditions as indicated by the dis patches warrant the foundation for belief that future offerings for the cjming crop will be high. The reports siate further that ! there were no claims in any direc tion that the market wa being manipulated. The general opinion seems to be tbr i the advance wts based npon i .taral conditions, which fir? c rain to curtail in Ij.rge degree le world's coming .ccv&f vvli'-j..
